No, you need to get the crusader kit for the gauntlet.

It looks like it only comes with the Reaper Chainsword.

Mind you I'm fairly sure there's no thermal cannon+gauntlet combo rules wise(was trying to find one some time ago when I thought 2 identical equipments would be boring so wanted to use gauntlet for other). Thus model would be non-WYSIWYG which could cause problems as chainsword and gauntlet have different weapon profiles.

Sorry, this isn't true. The Errant, Paladin and Warden all have the option to swap their chainsword for the gauntlet and it's been the case since at least the 7th Edition Knights codex and Index Imperium 2.
You do need to get the Warden kit though for the gauntlet.

The Gauntlet Upgrade option has been there since they introduced the upgraded kit with the weapon options. Makes sales sense since then there's more motivation to pay extra and get the bigger kit.

It's worth mentioning that it's not really a "sales bit"--the Errant/Paladin(the 'cheaper' version) is just old stock that they didn't pull. There are two different box variants of it as well, since at Christmas a few years back they did a variant box with different color schemes on the front.

To a degree, you're right, but it gives an incentive to spend on the bigger kit even if you only plan to field the basic types, because of the weapon upgrades you can install - carapace weapons, the meltagun, the gauntlet...
