It's time for another post you wonderful people!

Here we have another one of the models I was quite proud of, as a child. 2 in fact! Meet the terrible twins!

Name - Terrible Twins
Age - 14/15.
Notable features - The theme of these was red. And blue. And white perhaps. I like the red and black tabard.

Approx completion time - 15 hours for the pair. Basically a pro painter at this point.

Those are not too bad actually, for a beginner. Your skills were definitely improving at this point, even if you had a long way to go. They kind of have a cartoony look which is not a terrible thing. Much better than the first couple of guys you showed in this thread.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 29 | Current main painting project: Tomb Kings

Terrible? Maybe but you're showing improvement and that's what matters. Keep at it! I did a squad of Terminators recently and it wasn't too long since I did the last lot, but I've already seen stuff on the older ones I wish I'd done better. We are our own worst critics so as long as you're enjoying it, keep going!

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

Thank you kindly! Obviously that cartoony look was intentional

Lol it's a bit late to improve these models, they're 15 - 17 years old!

On to the post!

Right I got a treat for you today! You've had far too many of these "bearable" photos with models that have some slight element of what seems like possible skill. We're done with that. Now it's time for me to show you what happens when 14 y/o Englishboy tries to do skin and his first "face". I call this model - Gene Simmons.

Name - Gene Simmons
Age - 14/15.
Notable features - Having no idea that skin is actually a combination of colours, I decided that of course Skull White was the perfect option. I'm not sure if Gene is dead, alive, or just really likes Kiss but he definitely wasn't made for loving me and every time I look at him/i], [i]tears are falling. I could literally do this ad nauseum but let's not have a crazy, crazy night.

Approx completion time - Easily 10 - 15 hours. Took me ages to do that face. I was so proud. I. Was. So. Proud.

Black & Red Edlar from end of Page 1 looks pretty good!

Actually, I really like that fig ... Long OOP I assume?

Wish I had some pics like these. I reckon my childhood "highlight" would've been a platoon of Airfix WWII aussies painted "metallic green"!

This is bloody brilliant! Oh wow. These are pretty bad. They're so bad it hurts, but it hurts so good. Lmao! The "Terrible Twins" were probably your best work. The guns actually have a few clean lines on them.

I started painting when I was 12. I still have the first models I ever did too. I can show one of you'd like. Must say though, I was always an artistic person.

Lol thanks, I was proud of that wraith guard. That particular model is OOP but the new models look pretty much the same just bigger and plastic imo. I think they'll do you good.

Lol I'm glad you enjoy them and can appreciate their awful glory. You get what this thread is for!

Yea feel free to post your first models. Particularly if they're ugly. Same goes for anyone else. I haven't kept all of my models so only have a few treats left. Once I've finished with all the awful models I'll probably take a pic of the army as a whole so you can see how they look together, lol. Distance is a wonderful thing.

When I started there was a starter pack with a few paints and I some Bretonnian Archers. Considering it's my first model, it's really not too bad. I gave the poor guy silver pants though cause I only had a handful of colors. As weird as this may sound I will absolutely never repaint anything I've painted. Even if I know I can make it look so much better I love forever seeing where I started and how far I've come.

That's pretty damn good! Proper staying in the lines and the paint isn't too thick. I'm well impressed. Also I'm with you on the no repainting thing. I would rather give the models to someone else to paint and use.

Ahh! i had that starter pack too! i love those archers, still have them with the same paint scheme, ha. I feel the same way about repainting, for the most part.

Speaking of, i have a small friend to show as well. I hope he helps everyone everywhere feel a bit better about... well, you'll see.

Spoiler:

This is called "i only had my older sisters cheap acrylic paints that she didn't want any more, and also one giant brush"

Beautiful. Each and every one of them. The colors and bases give me a nostalgic Toy Soldier vibe. Our dad collected/ still collects Toy Soldiers so the style is something I grew up appreciated and trying to replicate quite often.

I wish I had some pictures to contribute though. I had a motley Rogue Trader era collection and other contemporary pieces of the time, but they were all binned around the time I discovered the opposite gender.

Everything was painted with good old fashioned Tester's Enamels, with no concept of thinning paints down whatsoever. Good times! Keep 'em coming!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
