Here's part 1 of my 3 part series on how to stop blaming dice. This is the most important topic to go over when playing competitive 40k, so be sure to check it out at The Brown Magic!

Alternatively, my 1 part response: "Stop blaming dice."

Aside from that: No, I don't think it's the most important topic when going over competitive, and my anti virus/malware lit up like a Christmas tree when I was foolish enough to click the link.

Didn't click, didn't read.
To play competitively you have to play the percentages.
'Good' competitive 40k is an exercise in maths.
Done.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

Definitely not clicking after that guy's antivirus lit-up.

But this is like what we used to tell people in LoL. You've gotta look past your teammates and look at what you did wrong and could do better regardless of what they did.

Didn't click or read, but you CAN blame dice if your dice are badly manufactured. GW dice are just plain bad. Chessex dice aren't great either, but they're better than GW.

If you want balanced dice that roll randomly, buy some precision backgammon dice, which are made like casino dice. They're a hell of a lot more expensive, though.

A GREAT example of this is the psychic tests in 6th/7th ed.

There is a large difference between 2D6 and rolling dice individually.

Charge distance is actually very predictable when compared to getting hits in the shooting/melee phase. Especially with a single die or both die rerolls. Often times it's that guy who expected that 7 inch charge to be automatic because someone told them a 7 is the most common result. Or the person who rages when they roll a yatzee of 1's for their to-hit rolls. (Or reroll 1's two times in a row lol.)

My only suggestion to people is this, if the Die has a facing, it's going to roll that face since it's usually lighter. If the Die is casino, it's going to be fair, which means it can roll the same result twice. If your dice are bad, just wait and keep playing, they will probably get better. (But not assuredly lol.)

Oh man, league of legends.

Talk about a toxic community.

I quit LoL after a lost qualifying match. Before the game started, one of my team mates, who had already reached the new plateau, and could therefore not derank, decided to throw the match. This person used that third-party site (forget the name) to look up your team mates, saw that I was in my 7th game (or whatever) of a qualifying match, which meant it was win and advance, or lose, and have to go back down. First thing he says after the game starts - I had said nothing to this point - is, and i'm not even kidding: "I see you're in your qualifying match. I'm going to feed. I want you to lose." This person then ran down each lane, feeding the person opposite us, while also trolling in public game chat.

It was such a surreal experience. It was also then that i realized the community drawn to LoL was just not healthy, and I never looked back. I prefer tabletop games for this reason. You're looking the person with whom you're playing in the eye.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

People, the article is not about the god damn physical dice and how they are weighted. It's about risk management and probability calculation.

Why do we have so many people now who feel qualified to comment on something they've not bothered to read or understand?

Well, I can't fault people really:

(a) The Brown Magic is not really a site i've heard of before
(b) Someone mentioned antivirus warnings. Some of us post and read at work a bit, and therefore cannot risk a site like this.
(c) Typically people provide at least a teaser or some information to draw you in to the article.
(d) Your lawn is amazing, it is where we need to be.

Man, watch your blood pressure.

It was obvious from the article title that's what he was talking about, and I was pretty sure he wasn't going to address that the dice can actually be physically BAD, thus my post about bad dice. Because most people probably DO have crap dice.

FWIW - It's Nick Nanavati's website (I also had no issue with any anti-virus concerns). He did however, not do a great of actually providing any qualifying information as to why you might value his opinion on any subject, much less competitive 40k.

To be fair though there are some dice from GW that are WAY off balance. The nurgle ones for example are bull gak. They are hallow so their weight is way off, plus is proven that sharp corned dice tumble less thus reducing the chance to land on a favorable side due to casting errors and densities

To many unpainted models to count.

Call me crazy, but shouldn't you be working rather than goofing off?

As for the anti-virus, no problems here. Infact none of the online scanning tools that use multiple vendors pick up any issues. I think Audustum needs to get a new AV, or is already infected by something else.

Do you have the statistics to prove this? On different surfaces as well?
