I was wondering if tau characters can still spread their aura benefits to other tau units embarked on shield walls, and can strike and breacher teams still set up support turrets?

No. Aura's do not affect embarked units.

On the tidewall profile, the open-topped rule has a sentence that says "When they do so, (shooting) any restrictions or modifiers that apply to this model also applies to its passengers.

Volly fire works on all models with the [sept] keyword which the shield wall has. which leads me to believe that in fact, the fire warriors can benefit so long as the Fireblade is outside of the fortification.

Except does the Fireblade's Aura work on the FORTIFICATION itself? If not, it would not apply.

Volly fire as written does work on any sept model. So hence the buff can affect the units on the tidewall.

Invocations can't though as they don't effect the tidewall
