Well let's go the other way and say what if...

Sisters get custodes stats and stay the same for points. Everyone would want to buy them and the 40K universe would go down in flames (pun intended).

So, basically Devastator Squad box set Fiasco... great
I dont think that there is GW kit that I hate more than Devastators

That would be a blessing, snap fit is perfect, plus you can always use green stuff if you want something custom added.

I'd rather them be snap fit + buy extra green stuff than them be a normal glue them all type sprue

Aye, from this thread I understand that people long for 5 models monopose kit, that is snap fit and has 1 special weapon.
And 20+ years whining just for this. I can't wait for 2019 - Plastic Sisters are a fact and GW announce them with re-used Space Marine (the video game) theme song

On a side note, I really prefer snap fit too, because when I almost lost sanity while assembling my first 10men Tactical Squad

Did you think I'd somehow confuse your post with my own, despite the fact every post helpfully has the authors name attached to it?

If so, thank you, but I'm well aware that my words are contained in the post I just posted, that you are in fact not the author of my posts, and thank you for your invaluable contribution to this thread.

Nope, you just suggested that people (like me, who are pissed at old kits) who prefer snap fit are not fit for this hobby.

Make your saving throws now.

Yes, yes I did.

If you buy into a hobby which primarily consists of assembling multipart kits, say... Airfix. And then proceed to complain that the hobby consists of too many multipart kits, my suggestion to you is to find yourself a hobby that has less multipart plastic kits, say, Flames of War, rather than to complain loudly in the hopes the hobby magically transforms into a different hobby.

This isn't a difficult or controversial point to grasp, here. Snap Fit Sisters would be dissapointing, an improvement for sure, but still dissapointing as it reduces the variety and customisation in the hobby.

If you'd like monopose, easy to assemble sisters of Battle, might I direct you to the GW Store page, where you'll find a variety of easy to assemble monopose sisters models that come in two easy to assemble parts?

Strawman argument.

People are mostly saying that having a five-model plastic monopose kit is STILL better than our current setup for Sisters of Battle, and a vast improvement. We already use overpriced monopose miniatures to begin with, that are metal to boot. Multipose plastic miniatures would be, in my eyes, better. But having new, high quality plastic snap-fit kits would still be a vast improvement over the aging (most of our infantry sculpts are from the 1990s) range we currently have.

your mind

I think that either I missed the point of the thread or others have, but here is what I see this thread doing...

What if...
GW releases sisters of battle and then people start complaining that there aren't enough transexual and xe-type gender re-assigned modeling options, so that then GW releases this upgrade sprue that has such options and then the Christians around the world form a boycott of GW products and the Pope sues GW out of existence?

Foolishly I made a thread entitled 'The Plastic Sisters Thread' in the hopes it might attract all the comments, questions, and thoughts about Plastic sisters.

It failed at it's purpose.

That would be far from a blessing, monopose snapfits are the worst thing to happen to this hobby since Tom Kirby. I know that I'd hate to have an army of 5 identical minis repeated ad infinatum. It would look awful and be massively boring to look at and build. Sure multipart kits are more expensive but at least then you can have an army of your dudes rather than an identical army to everyone else. If you don't like building multipart plastic kits, I'd suggest you find another hobby as that's a third of what the hobby is about.
As for you OP, go and be inflammatory elsewhere, it's not needed here and I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked already. Why don't you go back under the bridge that is the BoLS comments section, you'll fit right in there.

The more I read, the more it sounds like the OP is indeed trying to troll us.

Let's be real, I'd be pretty disappointed if it was just a 5-man 'kill team' sort of box in 2019. I'd still buy it, I'd probably buy 10 of it, because I've waited this long, but part of me feels that that would be the thing that gets me out of 40k completely.

On the other hand, I don't think that's going to happen. GW knows they can't mess this up. They saw how loud we were during their survey. They know they can make a lot of money here if they do it right. That's why they're going to be showing us the steps that they're taking, that's why they're going to be showing us the beta rules for the codex, and we're going to have a lot of opportunities for input all along the way to make sure this release is good.

But yeah, I vote that this thread be locked. Everything that can be said has been said and the OP is just being argumentative.

As others have said this is all about money. I have no doubt that Sisters will be a full plastic release that will be extremely profitable to GW. It will be a big milestone, as it marks the end of metal models as a whole. I cannot stand snapfit, and even the new deathguard lacked variety due to their kits being severely limited. Sisters im sure will have large amounts of customisation with new units not seen before. If you want to see the style, i imagine they will be similar to Cannoness Veridiyan (cant spell). If GW cocks this release up there will be hell to pay with the community

And GW will be like - "Here are your plastic Sisters - Kill Team Sororitas warband to support your Kill Team teams......."

This is not a troll post. Just knowing how GW operates sometimes this one will not be much of a surprise.

Also, if you planned SoB army you will have to wait until 2019...
I don't know how people that already have SoB army feel about new plastic sisters.

I keep seeing these and they're always super dumb.

Creating the mold to create a unit of sisters in plastic costs 50,000-100,000 dollars. So the question becomes, why would you deliberately tank your own sales, AND piss off your community by creating killteam only sisters? Why would you deliberately throw away potentially tens of thousands of dollars, instead of just making a moderate kit release for a relatively small army that's guaranteed to A. Make its money back and B. Never require another kit release for the rest of time?

Why would they make ANYTHING killteam specific in plastic actually? Do ya'll really think that kill team is that popular that any kit made exclusively for killteam, in plastic, wouldn't absolutely bomb?

Ideas like this is why none of ya'll should ever be decision makers at real companies.

Oh, and even better, GW have already committed to showing us the design process as it goes along. Don't you think they'll be telegraphing something like this just a bit?

You say that now. But I'd imagine it will become a more in-depth roster with several new unit choices and sculpts that will make you want to start again

really can't see that happening honestly...

Then you should read your first post again, because you answered your own question.

Like they're gonna let people with SoB models already not buy new stuff. Oh, and you SHOULD buy new stuff anyway because if the army DOES bomb, we WILL get squatted.

I desperately want to make an entire intercessors only army out of just the guy standing with his bolter at the ground. If only because I know it'll make the models in the community go nuts.

Vigo. Spain.

Nah, the 50k-100k pounds for a mould was a ton of years ago and based in Renedra prices.

For GW it should be MUCH cheaper both because of technology with 3D printed moulds, in-house process, etc... and it all depends in the size of the mould, his complexity, etc...

It costs 50 grand to make a mould?! What the actual. A tub of silicone costs 40-odd quid and you can buy paper cups by the thousand for buttons.

The cost is because you're not making single use moulds but rather steel moulds that can be used in an industrial process.

Your "tub of silicone" moulds can be used how many times before they cease to be usable?

0 probably. The process GW uses to cast their plastics requires relatively high pressure and temperature. more than silicones can stand at least.

well i stand corrected i was entirely wrong in thinking that the only reason gw wasnt using pink silicone was because they hadnt heard of it i am enlightened ok

Smiley face.

Also even if it's steel the cost makes no sense. I'm guessing the real reason for 50k moulds is ERJAK's using an old pricing model.

Yea 50-100k seems incorrect. That would mean the death guard line costed in the millions which i flat out dont believe.

A 5 man snap fit would be cool but that wont be all. People are just afraid of having to build an army of clones which sob already suffer from.

They will probably release a 10 sister squad box similar to guard with similar options and then a command box that you will need to buy 5 of to actually get the loadouts you want.
Im more concerned with loosing older options, which imho is more possible.
New stuff will be great but it will bitter sweet if we loose ANY of the small options we have.

I expect a new vehicle (certainly plastic exorsist sprew), penitent engines redone (will be like knights or a snapfit option like the new dred) a 10 person box, a 5 command box containing essentials (you will need to buy this along side your 10 man box), a 5 snap fit for fillers/noobs, certainly serpahin (possibly a heavier class of seraphin), a 5 box of the heavy weapon gals, and a hero/cannoness that is eay too expensive.

I would be suprised if they touched repentia (im most concerned they will drop them from the dex) or acro flailingmen. I would be pleasently shocked if they redid them but i would be deflated to see them get ignored over assasins/crusaders

And thats all folks see you in a year when i collect my bet winnings again just like i am now for sayins sisters will get a deathguard style re launch and people laughed at me.

Ten seconds on google would tell you that the range for plastic molds is 10,000-100,000 dollars depending on the complexity and the assumed volume of production it needs to withstand. GW molds require extremely fine detailing for high volumes of production, which puts them on the higher end of that spectrum. Even accounting for proprietary technology and other cost savings, it's unlikely they've gotten down more than 50%, which puts them in the 25000$-50000$ range, which puts me firmly in the 'correct enough for the point to still be valid' camp.

For those of you curious, the reason why it can be that expensive and still be profitable is that, once the mold is made, the rest of the production process is functionally free. A box of intercessors probably uses about $1.25 of material total.

Here's an exact quote from an actual plastic mold manufacturer:

The differences between that 1 bedroom home vs the luxury home on 2 acres are the same for molds which can start low and accelerate very quickly. Generally molds are crafted out of either aluminum or steel. Aluminum molds are cheaper and a perfectly reasonable choice if you don’t need the mold to perform long-term or produce many pieces. However, if your project requires that a mold lasts for several years, an aluminum mold may cost more in the long-run. Steel molds last longer and produce higher quality pieces. Hardened steel molds lasts the longest and have a long production life, however the initial upfront cost is higher. It’s like that old saying goes “You get what you pay for”.

If your part is semi to very complex then the mold itself is going to be expensive. You wouldn’t expect a Rolex watch to be made with anything less than pristine tools and parts and by a trained Watch Engineer now would you? If you want to put out a high quality product with a great reputation why would you opt to save a little bit of money for a cheap mold which will only harm your product and your future profits?

Building an amortization schedule for your mold can help you see the perspective of how much you are actually spending. For example, if your mold is going to cost $45,000, made out of steel and expected to make 500,000 parts over the next three years think of it this way, the cost per year for 3 years is only $15,000 and your cost per part is only $0.09! The cost of the mold and what you are getting from it suddenly makes a lot of sense.

I found this website while Googling, like you suggested. Here it quotes £8 grand as an average for a plastic injection mould and £12 as an extreme case, so unless the $/£ exchange rate is 10 to 1 (HINT: it isn't) then I'm still not sure where the hundred grand comes from. Maybe US steel is more expensive than UK steel or something.

If, however, GW are producing the moulds in-house rather than commissioning a fabricator then the pricing is a lot different. If they're doing that I doubt it'd even approach 8 grand a mould, depending on how many they make.
