Only played the computer games, so I had some idyllic picture of them flying for miles, but somehow I don't think it's possible in a heavy suit?

Jump Packs are only brief, powered leaps, or used to slow descent from orbit. Space Marine the game has a good example of it, with Titus leaping up then crashing down.

But how far? Lexicanum nor any other site I could find states how far.

Unless the Deathwatch RPG says anything, it's never been stated exactly how high or how far a jump pack-equipped trooper can go. A few tens of metres in any given jump is how I've always pictured it.

As the name suggests-its a JUMP pack, not a FLIGHT pack.
You can do superhero leaps with it (and superhero landing that decimate everything around you because you are REALLY heavy), but you are not flying anywhere. it aint no jetpack.

Sorry I refuse to believe anything less than 50 meters, anything less isn't tactical at all, and would be next to useless in almost any situation.

Pestilent Plague Marine with Blight Grenade
|
If 6" represents a Tactical Marine at a tactical run stopping to take cover and a few shots, then the jump distance is double that (at least in game terms)
I've always seen it as a way to easily traverse terrain and quickly close the gap for an assault rather than travelling long distances.

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.
To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

I see it fluff vs table top, where TT are played out on small maps and therefore the rules are made for small cramped maps.

In your original post you said the only reference you have is that of Computer Games.

*shrug* I don't think anyone here really cares what you choose to believe.
Less than 50 meters is still pretty handy when you take vertical distance into account, and what that allows troops to go over and drop onto an enemy vs going through.

Yup. even a "mere" 10 meter jump opens up a lot of tactical options that you just cant do without, especially when you can do multiple jumps (and you can, just not it TOO rapid succession)
Heck, even if it only gave a VERTICAL 10 meter jump without any benefit for horizontal movement, it would still be very useful.

It's very clear that you have never been in the army, it would be miraculous if you are allowed to close in to 50 meters, only in urban or jungle environments such thing is possible, even then it would be bad.

It doesn't really work as a assault marine can also "jump" infinity high up an infinity tall building
