I had an argument with a buddy over the following situation where the green unit wishes to shoot the red 10< wounds character. The blue unit behind LoS block terrain are closer, and my friend argued that since they are closer, the green unit cannot target the red character, but must instead target the other blue unit which they do have LoS to, but are behind the character.
I'm saying green CAN shoot the character, he say they can't.

Frustrating as it is, that's the rules currently. since the character is not the nearest model - it can not be shot at.

From the rules:
A CHARACTER
can only be chosen as a target in
the Shooting phase if they are the
closest visible enemy unit
So if unit 1 is completly out of sight, you can in fact shoot the character. But if unit 1 is visible, but enganged in melee, you can't shoot the character.

No, this is wrong. The character has to be the closest visible enemy. He is, in the given scenario.

Sorry bub, Chapter Approved changed the Character rule. From the CA Errata: ‘An enemy Character with a Wounds characteristic of less than 10 can only be chosen as a target in the Shooting phase if it is both visible to the firer and it is the closest enemy model to the firer.’
If it's not the closest, you can't shoot it. Even if there is a single grot, behind a wall, in a box, with a bag on it's head, closer than the hulking warboss in plain sight, you can't shoot the Warboss.

from chapter approved (P67):
Targeting Characters -
An enemy CHARACTER with less than 10 wounds can only be targeted if it is both visible to the firer and it is
the closest enemy model to the firer. Thismeans that if any other enemy model is closer, whether it is visible or
not, then the enemy CHARACTER cannot be targeted.
But i guess it depends on whether you are playing matched play or not. Automatically Appended Next Post: BCB beat me to it it seems!
i think its a silly rule - but it is still the game rule.

And I mean they didn't have the decency of doing it right the first time, and the errata is free to all. Plus the Beta Character rules are free too.
