We have

Space Marines. Blood Angels. Dark Angels. Custodes. Grey Knights. Adeptus Mechanicus. Astra Militarum. Chaos Marines. Death Guard. Thousand Suns. Demons. CraftWorld. T'au, Necrons, Tyranids.

With Drukhari, Knights and Deathwatch dropping over the next few weeks.

That Leaves... Orks. Space Wolves. Sisters. GSC.

How do you think GW is going to play this? It's likely that the remaining Codexes will be released this year (With Sisters coming in 2019) then what? With the amazing rate of releases what do you think 2019/2020 will hold for 40k? I don't think that there is going to be a new edition any time soon. If anything I think that 8th edition is pretty much the definitive edition which will be tweaked and FAQ'd over the next few years. Will we see new factions and previously unexplored areas of the 41st millenium explored? Expansions?

I'd really like to see a large Ork release coupled with a new edition of GorkaMorka. New buggies, trucks, bikes etc would be really fun.

What do you fine folk think?

It seems pretty clear a Slaanesh and/or Emperor's Children book will be coming. And World Eaters. Also possible Tau Auxiliaries. Demiurg/Squats are on the table of possibilities.

There's rumors of new Abaddon and Black Legion stuff, but no book needed for that. We may see model releases for various things and occasional updates to incorporate them to codexes over time.

The natural thing for them to do is going to be to maintain a fairly high rate of model-less releases by putting out more subfactions, warlord traits, and stratagems. It's pretty easy to add on to existing codices in this way. I'm betting this sort of thing will be most of their output.

We haven't actually gotten that many new models, after all, and I don't think that they're constrained here by what they've already published. There were big Primaris and Death Guard releases, and that was it. Custodes got a few models but really not that many. Sisters are apparently going to be a big release next year. Orks could certainly use something, but it's also easy to imagine a big Ynnari release.

Harlequins.
Almost certainly Emperors Children
Almost certainly World Eaters
Imperial Agents - will do they do a Custodes on the Sisters of Silence?

It woud be incredablty easy to make new loyalist Marine Chapter books - Imperial Fists, Salamanders. Just reprint most of the SM Codex give them a character or two, artefacts etcand a couple of special units - hopefully they would avoid flanderising them like Wolves and Angel but I doubt it.

More adventuerous than just more Marines and they could do

Tau Auxilaries inlcuding renegade Humans
Chaos Renegades rather Legions - allowing some use of modern Marine stuff
Some guard regiments - they are actually much more diverse than the Marines.

Big release

Once the Codexes are done, I expect them to shift to focusing on campaign book releases, with models alongside. Basically I expect several Gathering Storm type events each year. Probably not quite the scale story wise, but each focusing on a new conflict and releasing a couple of new kits each for several different factions with each one.

I think it makes more sense to work this way rather than giving like 2 or 3 factions a year a large number of kits, giving most factions a couple of kits.

A 2nd version of the space marine and grey knight codex just like they did in AoS

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I can see a need for some 8.5 codices. There will come a time where it will become more efficient to reprint books with updated errata and FAQ type answers for various factions as well as just the need to rebalance some armies vis a vis the game as a whole.

A fallen dark angels codex is certainly within the realms of possibility with their new fluff. They could release Luther and the lion

Fully Painted Armies: 2200pts Orks 1000pts Space Marines 1200pts Tau 2500pts Blood Angels 3500pts Imperial Guard/Renegades and 1700pts Daemons 450pts Imperial Knights

Luther is coming for sure. I'm hoping next year, along with Lion. They've been teasing Luther a lot recently.

But I could see it as a campaign book release. They just need a Legion Trait, Warlord trait, relic, and strat in addition to the CSM book really. Make Fallen troops and they are almost usable too! Maybe give them that named Daemon Prince they have, I forget his name but he led the attack on the Rock.

I think they said right at the launch of 8th that once the codecies are done they'll switch to campaign books, so things like Shield of Baal, Damoclese Gulf, Warzone Fenris, The Gathering Storm will become the mainstay.

I don't expect one for AdMech unless they do something drastic and add a ton of stuff(Skitarii HQ choice and Doctrina Imperatives as Skitarii specific rules rather than Stratagems please!) to them.

I could see Space Marines and Chaos Marines getting new codices like we saw with Stormcast and Bloodbound(Fyreslayers only just got Lodge rules recently in General's Handbook, so I'd expect Grey Knights to get something similar from CA).

At this rate, I would not be surprised if GW started releasing subfaction codices all together
Instead on a Space Marine codex with <Chapter Tactics>, we'll get 7 separate books for UMs, White Scars, Salamanders, etc.

And while we are at it, there will be a separate book for the casts within each subfaction too.
UM Primaris book, UM regular marine book, UM scouts book, etc
But the end, Marines alone with have over 100 separate books for what really should be a single book.

Part of me wonders why Sisters of Silence didn't join the Custodes and with Sisters of Battle now formally on the Horizon there's a question mark of the Sisters of Silence. They could still merge into one of the other imperial releases; then again they could form the Sisters version of the Custodes.

Warhammer could certainly support two female focused factions without issue (though personally I'd have rather seen an Imperial Guard or Xeno female faction instead of two broadly marine female factions*

*being aware that Sisters of Battle are not true marines, but that at the same time they, at least historically, were visually very similar; at least you'd think them more marines than guard.

I could have lived with them being in the custodes codex but when they got ditched, custodes just became space marine but with more fluffy marine stats. GW can stick that.

I'm hoping for them to be expanded upon in some codex, even if it is shared with another faction.

I just realy hope they don't ret con them into SoB as that would kill them.

I liked the idea of a faction that was loyalist imperial but had been forced to hide from the ministorum etc and has zero love for the imperium as it is, and were also close enough to the emperor to know how far the imperium has fallen.

Lots of potential for vengence story lines and tearing down institutions of the imperium as they don't represent what was supposed to be.

That is essentially Guilliman in 40k. Minus the hiding obviously. But he hates the Ministorum and mourns privately for how far the Imperium has fallen.

I expect them to play on this the next time they feel the need to advance the plot. Guilliman surely wants the Ministorum destroyed, but knows that politically it is impossible while there are so many external threats to deal with.
