Possessed Khorne Marine Covered in Spikes
|
Hello,
First off, I saw the other thread about Better Khorne Berserkers but I don't want to derail or take over his/her thread. Instead, I made my own. This thread is in reference to clever ways of modeling/converting the Khorne Berserkers to dual wield melee weapons (chainaxe and chainsword).
I'm a very liberal modeler and I love creative alternatives. For example, my Demon Prince uses a sword which I call the Sword of Bloodshed that grants him +3 attacks (counts as x2 malefic claws).
Anyway; I know I can model the 'zerkers to have chainaxes and chainswords with little-to-no conversion. The only real issue is that the boxed sets don't come with enough melee weapons for each of them to have two. I can get around this by scouring for bits (lots of chaos friends).
I'm asking for any/all ideas people have. No wrong answers (unless the answer includes Slaanesh).
One idea that I have that I feel is near-impossible, but would be lovely, is to model the 'zerkers with two handed chain axes. I can call the extra attack the butt of the axe haft or something (I don't care. Rules change, but the models' appearance doesn't). If anyone knows of a way to arm Khorne Berserkers with arms/hands in the position of a two-handed weapon that would be lovely!
Any other random ideas? Any off-brand minis that anyone knows of? I've searched Forge World but didn't find anything that I could imagine being useful (I bought 20 chainaxes, though).
Feel free to post some cool Khorne-related conversions that you've done here for inspiration, even if they have nothing to do with berserkers.

What I did is buy one box of Berzerkers and one box of Blood Warriors and mix 'n' matched the arms, legs, bodies, heads to get my 3 squads of Berzerkers with plasma-fist champ and chainaxe-sword on everyone else. I did have enough Chainaxes and Chainswords lying around to give them all WYSIWYG, except for 3 that I gave banners to act as Icons of Wrath.
The Blood Warrior kit comes with lots of axes, fist weapons, some double handed weapons and a banner. They make for great Berzerkers. I can post pics if you like but it'd be from a Phone Camera.

Oh thanks! That's an idea!
I'd love to see some pics, especially if they are painted. Looking at the Blood Warriors a couple things stand out. They have leather boots and some of their arms are unarmored. It's bad enough Kharn is sleeveless, but he's a bada** so that's fine, whatever. I don't know how I'd feel about Khorne Berserkers with armless arms. Were you able to avoid this?
I might go ahead and do this. Never hurts to have more khorne bits. Plus I can see some ways to make some two handed chainaxes! Worst case scenario, I can call the 2h axes "power fists" for my champions!

There's three if them, only one painted (I'm behind on my painting). (Also, sorry for the image, such poor lighting that I had to use a torch)
There are enough arms in the boxes to have no naked arms but I chose to give some of them naked arms because I think it looks (like Kharn) badass.

You could look at the World Eaters Rampager squad; they have some interesting weapons including some huge two handed chainaxes.

@mrhappyface
Those are awesome! I'll totally have to do that. Those poor leather boots aren't going to be very appealing, but whatever. I'll live! Maybe I'll cut off the lower legs from some extra chaos space marines or loyalists. That'll probably be too much work!
@Winter
Thanks, but 30+ euros is A LOT for weapon parts (I wouldn't be using the model itself). I wish the heresy marines had chaos versions... in the rules or in the models. There are so many awesome World Eaters that are all just generic Berserkers now!
I found some chainglaives (nightlords) that could totally be turned into two handed chain axes!
