So, I was easing through the IG codex, and it showed one of the more obscure guard regiments, the Ventrillian Nobles, taking the Vostroyan doctrine. Does that mean they also get to use the Vosroyan order “Repel the Enemy!” and the Vostroyan stratagem? Does this go for all custom regiments?

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

No. The only thing a custom regiment will have access to is the Doctrine. You don't get access to the orders, Warlord Traits or special characters.

As it stands, there is no reason to ever take a custom regiment, since you can legally just take VOSTROYAN on anything painted any way you want. Like, if you wanna go and be a hard-core fluffbunny, then you can take VENTRILLIAN NOBLES as your <REGIMENT> choice if you want, but you'll be intentionally restricting yourself.

This applies to all codexes warlord traits and Characters actually, so it's not just the Astra Copywritum who are shafted.

In one sense there are no "custom regiments" in that you have to use one of the ones listed. You actually have to nominate a Regiment for your units that have the <Regiment> bit in their datasheet. So you pick a Regiment and get everything that goes with being in that Regiment. You can "customize" their look and title. So you take Cadian models from 2nd Ed, paint them as you please, call them the 2/36 Bucktussle Fusiliers with some great home-grown lore but give them the Valhallan Regiment. They are now Valhallans for the purposes of doctrines, strategems etc.

All you have to do is fire three rounds a minute, and stand

Actually you may want to take a custom Regiment to use the Stormtroopers Doctrine. Then you can add actual Stormtroopers to your custom Regiment who wouldn't be able to use their doctrine, even though the regiment could!

Good point. That's the sole reason why you'd want it. However I don't think the doctrine is really strong enough to lose the orders, unless you're taking it on a lone baneblade or something.

That was actually my thought. Putting it on a Super Heavy Detachment. With an ammo carrier to add +1 to hit.

Of course for doctrine on single baneblade you need supreme commander detachment.

So that baneblade costs 90 points more. Woopdedoo. But yes, Astra Copywritum have the extra restriction on their doctrines to try and "prevent" single Baneblades from getting them. You have to pay a Company Commander tax or take 3 superheavies.
