What on Earth are you talking about? No Custodian Guard made the top 16. No Custodes made the top 8.

One Astra Mitarum list that took 3 Bike Captains was 10th. That's it.

Only 2 in the top 8 were even Imperium.

Geoff, the Custodian Guard guy, came in 22nd.

You might want to check your news sources. Geoff made it to the second round of the Championship the next day with his Custodes List.

You might want to check yours. My second link there is literally the Adepticon results page. I will happily admit his position, like everyones', can bounce around depending on what you want to sort by.

Yes. Which is why if you go back and sort the Adepticon results by Battle Points you will see he was 16th and that is why he played in the Day 2 Champion Tournament and made it to the Top 8. He was 22nd Overall, but 16th in Generalship after tiebreakers. So, Top 8 Custodes List with Custodian Guard.

I've even listed to him on the Chapter Tactics podcast where he called the Custodian Guards an important part of his list that makes it actually work.

Don’t throw pearls before swine. He obviously doesn’t know what the gak he is talking about... always good for a chuckle.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

Of course he called it important, it's his list! He obviously likes then or they wouldn't be there.

That said, you're reaching extremely to just label it "top 8" and move on. He was 22nd overall, he got 16th for pure battle points. It's not a good showing for arguing anything besides bikes can compete at the top level

Actually there were a ton of reasons to increase the amount of CP's for batts and brigades.

It helps armies like Adeptus Custodes, Space Marines, Necrons, etc... that have problems building big detachments.
It makes Astra Militarum less of a neccesity to farm CP.

It makes guard allies even more valuable.

Wouldn't have upped the CP for formations, would have upped the CP for turning up, say a baseline of six

This would have probably been better, and it certainly would have achieved their stated goal better.

When the edition was new thare was quite a bit talk about how pretty much all the rules about making certian thigs troops for themed armies (marine bikes, Deathwing terminators) were gone, but this didn't matter as the variety of detachments made building such armies still possible. Except such armies are CP starved, and now even more so in comparison to other builds.

You CAN get bad matchups. There are misplays. And this was in the pre-FAQ meta spam. A single tournament isn't necessarily representative of the wider picture - except when the top tables have a clear and obvious trend.

A lot of people are already copying his list and I’m sure he knew about the recent changes since he’s part of team FLG... e.g., he runs three assassins.

I don't know why CPs aren't treated like anything else. We each play with the same amount of points so why aren't we playing with the same amount of CPs?

Because if you bring 3 baneblades to a game, you should not get as many as the person who brings a well rounded, non-minimumed brigade.

But you still get more CP's per detachments if you bring 3 baneblades...
You know what's even better? The said AM can bring in a battalion for 200 points and get 5 CP's!
