I'm new to Warhammer. My understanding was that, when choosing a warlord, you could pick which trait you want to use. I'm currently building a Necron list on Battlescribe, which is showing the following alert when I select Illuminor Szeras as my warlord:

"Warlord must have one more selections of Warlord Trait (codex 3): Immortal Pride (minimum 1)"

or for Anrakyr the Traveller:

"Warlord must have one more selections of Warlord Trait (codex 5): Implacable Conquerer (minimum 1)"

If I understand this correctly, Battlescribe is telling me that the ONLY valid selection for Szeras is Immortal Pride, yet I haven't been able to find any actual rule that says you MUST pick a particular warlord trait for named characters. Nothing on the datasheets/codex that I've been able to find mentions anything about this. I don't own the physical codex though, so I'm thinking it's possible that this is a written rule I haven't seen.

Is this battlescribe's error, or am I missing something?

Check the codex, the dynasty warlord trait page.

Don't have the codex with me here, but check if there's something written under the warlord trait section in the codex, if its not on their datasheet

Special characters usually have a predefined Trait. Check your Codex carefully.

Yup, those are requirements for those two named characters. Pg 117 in the Necron Codex has the blurb about them having to take those two traits.

I was wondering about this too ... but the codex doesn't say anything about those characters having to take those traits.

Codex says "If a NECRONS CHARACTER is your Warlord, he can generate a Warlord Trait from the following table instead of the one in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook. You can either roll on the table below to randomly generate a Warlord Trait, or you can select the one that best suits his temperament and preferred style of waging war."

Look on the next page (and check the errata for Szeras and Anrakyr). Named Characters and Warlord Traits

Yes, you're missing the rule where it clearly states "If Illuminor Szeras is your Warlord, he must have the Immortal Pride Warlord Trait, and if Anrakyr the Traveller is your Warlord, he must have the Implacable Conqueror Warlord Trait "

If you think something isn't right in Battlescribe, check your codex first. The codex errata adds an extra line stating "If either Illuminator Szeras or Anrakyr the Traveller is your Warlord, then replace the <DYNASTY> keyword in their Warlord Trait with NECRON."

Ah right ... didn't see that paragraph. I was wondering why so many sites were referring to this trait but I couldn't find anything about it. Thanks for clearing that up.
