Been keeping REALLY busy with hobbying for Star Breach. One of the best elements of the system is the openness in miniature usage and modeling! 20 different factions representing nearly every sci-fi motif imaginable means there’s a place on the table for any sci-fi model you could buy and paint, ever!

Here’s what I’ve been up to over the past month:

I may try to push some games of Star Breach in my local area. I just realized that my old Sedition Wars Vanguard would be great for almost the entire Intergalactic Marshals list, so I could show off how it's minis-agnostic nature can mesh GW and non-GW models pretty well, because it's just a fact that most gamers are going to want to classify how well it can be used with GW models.

It's too bad that Star Wars Legion is so overscaled, as now that the Clone wars models have launched, it would be really easy to have a pretty-looking Path warband. Although with their increased scale, the Clones could potentially make a really cool Legion of Mankind warband that isn't just Space Marine models.

True.

I'm toying with warbands construction, too. I have to say that the warbands in Anthology are WAY LESS customizable than I would had expected form a "miniature agnostic" game. Fitting the models I own in the factions I feel more appropriate for them isn't a process totally devoid of frustration...

I didn't find out about this kickstarter until it was too late..... are you planning to open a late pledge by any chance?

Thanks!

I have to agree with that sentiment. Minis rulesets like Song of Blades and Heroes, Rogue Planet, gaslands, etc are where you can have a truly "Use any miniatures you have" experience. Star Breach is a bit disingenuous with their statements of that type.

BUT. That doesn' say there isn't some truly hidden gems of opportunity if you are willing to show off some inventiveness for what can count as the options for some of the forces. For instance, my Sedition Wars vanguard models will make some perfect Intergalactic marshals, especially as I can throw in an old cyber-hound from Necromunda I have. I think I am going to try and make the Strain funtion as a techno-zombie version of the Hive.

And how about this idea: Legion of Mankind using Star Wars Legion minis? Genetically engineered supersoldier forces get an easy pass when it comes to oversized/scaled models anyway, just like if I was using Primaris marines from GW (who are even larger, really).

Legion of Mankind model idea list:
-Boba Fett as a badass Sergeant with plasma shotgun and Jetpack relic.
-Sabine Wren as a Corporal with Bolt Pistol and Power Saber.
-Phase 1 Clone Troopers box as Lance Corporals with heavy weapons and Privates with bolt rifles.
-The Clone Specialist Expansion models providing a trooper with a missile launcher to be an Engineer, and the one with a backpack and satchel can be a Medic.
-The upcoming Clone AT-RT as an assault mech, with the feet counting as the "Crushing Claw", and the chin-gun being one of the various ranged mech-only guns.

I think that would make for a badass-looking force of hard-scifi shocktroopers liberating the galaxy in the name of Terra, or striking forth from a portal onto a chaotic Rifts-Style multiverse earth to claim territory against all the other crazy forces being thrown at each other.

That being said, I'm really working hard to find an appropriate Support Mech for the force that would visually work with the Star Wars minis. I've almost thought about maybe if one of the new Battlesuits from Maelstrom's Edge are large enough to work (especially as they are only 12 freaking bucks), or maybe going as far as hitting up Ebay for a Adeptus Titanicus-scaled Knight Prophyrion model and kitbashing one of the weapon arms and just making it a giant wardroid (a primaris marine comes up to about it's "waist" so it might be too huge despite being on a 60mm base).

Wait for the next print run. This book needs a Day 0 FAQ and errata that would make even GW blush.

Hey Star Breach Gamers!

So I am well aware I’ve been super quiet/secretive over the past couple months. I’m especially sorry that I’ve neglected this Dakka thread in spite of other social media/forum points! There’s the global level things *glancesandshrugsinliterallyeverydirection* of course, but my personal life has been very busy as well. That said, I have also actually been very busy (late at night) on tabletop game creating! I’ve been writing and editing like crazy, and I’m genuinely really excited for what’s in store for the rest of the year! I can’t spill everything all at once right here, but here’s some listed updates:

1. As foretold many moons ago, the official Star Breach Errata (from March) has now been fully integrated into the Free PDF ruleset on our website! Yay! So just download one doc and enjoy. The official FAQ/Errata will still be on the page as it impacts the printed works. From here on out, we’ll probably update the game with two further errata over the course of a couple years. Those updates will be to strictly to keep all warbands competitive as balance issues come to light with mass play. We won’t be doing a second edition for at least three years, so take it slow and enjoy!

2. Hunters is coming along great! We should have Missions 1 & 2 added and a beta version of the free book released online sometime next month! This will be the foundation on which we want to see more play-testing done before finalizing a 3 Mission Free PDF of the core game and then launching preorders for the full 12 Mission Deluxe Rulebook in the late Fall/Winter. Woot!

3. I’ll be honest in that I’m not certain where we’re at with our translated versions of Star Breach. I’m not being pushy considering the circumstances of the past 6 months and the fact these teams are doing the work for just for fun. I’d love to see Star Breach in French, Spanish, Italian, and German, but I think those all need a bit more time now than we originally planned for.

4. SDG has a really cool “merch” update coming down the pipeline. Keep an eye out!

5. Last, but definitely not least, I’m almost done writing the alpha version of an entirely NEW tabletop game! It should be ready for a soft announcement and serious play-testing by next week. Slow Death Games and I are going to put together a private group of testers who will get super early access to the ruleset and be responsible for reporting playtime reflections over a 4-6 month period. The group will be small (roughly 30-40players max). If you’re very serious about putting a new game through the fire, then contact Chris or I directly sometime this week. We’re gonna be choosy, so no offense if we can’t fit ya in. All in good time!

That’s what I’ve got for now. Exciting stuff in the months to come! Thank you for playing Star Breach!
