Are they gone in 8th Edition?

I make my list with Battlescribe, and they're listed in the Dark Angel HQ choices, but cross referenced with the e-codex, the librarians can't take bikes.

Are they still available to take on bikes?

Index only option. No Model, No Rules. So sayeth GW legal. Blame Chapter House. This is one of the few times GW have actually spelled out the intention of the rules, Legacy Index options are for old players, they are not intended for new players, who might get confused that options that aren't in the box are available (yes, that is literally their excuse). However, you can still legally take Index units, and even Index Wargear, even on new models, so go nuts, just don't expect it to last into 9th edition when I am 100% certain GW will disallow 8th Index options entirely.

The exception to this is if any older wargear gets turned into a strategum or some such and magically that wargear option in the index no longer exists.

And where does that rule be found?

There is no such blanket rule, just a specific FAQ about T’au Stimulant Injectors, I believe.

It's again GW rules being inconsistent as all heck but

Q: In Index: Xenos 2, the Stimulant Injector was a piece
of wargear that I could purchase for certain T’au Empire
units. In Codex: T’au Empire, the Stimulant Injector is
no longer a wargear option, but instead there is a Stimulant
Injector Stratagem. Can I continue to use the Index: Xenos 2
datasheets in order to purchase Stimulant Injectors for my units,
as per the ‘What datasheet rules should I use?’ flowchart?
A: No. You cannot purchase Stimulant Injectors
anymore and the rules for Stimulant Injectors as
presented in Codex: T’au Empire (i.e. the Stratagem)
take precedence.

If it has the same name it's replaced by said thing of same name from the codex and can't be taken from the index rules. Even if they arn't the same thing gameplay wise.

Ah too bad GW being GW they screwed up by tying answer specifically to stimulant injectors so if there's other cases like that those still work.

Yep. Until such time as other items get FAQ’d to not be selectable, they still are.

Jesus, guys. Can someone point to another item that WOULD be affected by this?

If you call this "screwing up" at least let's make sure this is an actual issue. Converting wargear options to Relics is probably a VERY rare occurance and I don't see how we need a universal rule to guide us on this.

The custodes vexilla. Was wargear for a squad, is now a unit on it's own right.

So is that unit a relic? Isn't it just an entirely different thing where an option was taken from a squad and moved to a new unit? I don't own that codex, but I'd assume you can still use the index option for that squad unless there's a specific FAQ saying otherwise. A ruling that says "Any wargear that's available as a relic is no longer a valid option" wouldn't change anything.

So from what I gather, dont bother converting a Ravenwing sergeant into a Librarian.

I'll just stick with my Codex rules.

No absolutly do so, lib on bike is a great model for ravenwing list.

To many unpainted models to count.
