Subject: Good units for substitutes?
|
 |
Monstrously Massive Big Mutant

The title is not a good explanation for this post, it's just a short form. My friends have told me how overpowered they consider my Berzerkers and Bloodletters to be (yes, even post-FAQ), and i've agreed it would be pretty fun to start trying to go out of my way to make sub-optimal lists. That being said, that KIND OF guts my play style, when two of my troop choices are just totally out.
Here's a list of "problem units" that they absolutely groan at, what are some very similar units within the confines of Khorne and Tzeentch Daemons, Thousand Sons and CSM?
1. Berzerkers. Seemingly unstoppable number of attacks, on very few models.
2. Bloodletters. A red tide of 5++ and power swords for 7 points.
3. Lord of Skulls. This thing has single handedly took down 3 knights by itself.
4. Cultists. This one i'm pretty fine with saying "screw that, you're just being salty", but if there is a chaff alternative, i'll take it.
Thanks for any tips, feedback, and flame war igniting!

"Less Good Berzerkers" is what Possessed are, essentially. You could try running those.

Good point! I'll lose out on them providing troop choice, but they're still a good melee bruiser all the same!

I was gonna say Possessed as well. Maybe run some standard marines with chainswords and bolt pistols? Maybe try Chosen with power weapons?

Chosen is another good pick...And marines with chainswords are literally just Berzerkers with only a quarter of the attacks It is similar, but maybe too similar to be interesting.

Kytan is BASICALLY just another Lord of Skulls. But knight may be good!

Raptors, Warp Talons and Bikes could also work with an aggressive playstyle.
Helbrutes with Fist/flail are pretty nice this edition, but you'd need at least two.
Chaos Furies are often overlooked but might also be something to use as a fast unit to annoy the opponent. I only used units of 5 so far which annoyed the opponent because there are usually much more important things on the field, yet these are fast enough to close the gap.
There are also Mutilators, but the GW models belong to the worst they ever created and I'm still not sold on 4" moving CC models. Hitech, Scibor or puppets war could provide you with decent models for them at least .
