So I just had a look at the tournament pack for the upcoming GW sanctioned London GT. I live in London and couldn't go this year as it falls 2 weeks from the due date of my angry pregnant wife. The terrain guidance in the tournament pack is looking mediocre. As far as I can tell there is no terrain above 8" and most at 6".

Is this going to be the shootiest of shooty tournaments ever?

Again its gotta come down to needing better terrain to match the meta.

Congrats on the baby!

In ITC you can't see through first floor windows, so there looks to be pretty good LOS blocking. Looking at the lists I don't see a huge skew to shooting, but it will be interesting. The tournament also has kill points which will change some dynamics, too.

Rule of thumb at my FLAGS is eight 12"x6" terrain templates on a 6'x4' table, roughly two per table quarter.

There are 2 8" high LoS blockers at the center of every map, seems good.

I think we need a return to some form of random terrain generation.

I think tournaments shouldn't have standard terrain. I think tables should all be different. That way you can't game the game by building against "the standard". If you had to build against multiple variables, a lot of our issues with min max garbage wouldn't be as noticeable.

Surrounded by 6" high hill type terrain...not so good?

Why? It offers play and counterplay to LoS, i see it as a good thing.

It depends on the ruins they're using in the center. If it's GW ruins those are only a couple inches wide at the top.

The issue with that idea is that it gives a lot more power to the roll to choose table side. Now I like the idea here that there are a few different standard layouts. But wildly different terrain layouts lead to skill being less of a factor in who wins.
