40k just about predates Robocop.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Rogue Trader and Robocop first showed up in 1987. It's possible that they each independently discovered "dreadnaughts" but I'd be willing to bet that there is a sci-fi story out there with people placed into war machines that predates both of them.

They got it from The Simpsons.

The sheer volume of them being referred to as "Drederick Tatum"* when playing makes it so obvious.

When did the TOS Star Trek episode come out with Captain Pike in his beepmobile?

I could totally imagine a kid going "omg just add guns."

Or the Daleks, which are literally bodies inside machines with guns attached...

The concept of Human brains in robot bodies has been around quite a while. Robotman from DC Comics first appeared in 1963.

I remember being captivated by the section on dreadnoughts in the WH40K 1st edition Compendium as a teenager. Don't get me wrong, the current SM codex is a beautiful book, but the old school lore around dreadnoughts was so much more comprehensive, even including diagrams of how the space marine was interred in the sarcophagus...

Yeah but the concept of removing body parts in place of robotics was first done by robocop as far as I know.

It's difficult to draw a line, but I've seen this from 1839 cited as the origin of the idea of a cyborg:

Dreadnoughts as we know them in 40k is a pretty old sci-fi trope, and yes, “The Man That Was Used Up” is probably the oldest publish example. The original 40k concept, however, did not require the pilot to be permanently entombed but instead simply recommended it.

In metropolis from 1927 they replace a human body with a robotic one.

No.

Robocop is really a development of : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deathlok

.. I have a very vague memory of a magazine from around the time of Robocop's release mentioning something about a possible lawsuit concerning the similarities or somesuch but cannot seem to find anything relating to this online now.

Cybermen are another precursor although in their case, their closer decedents are the Borg. Both humanoids who gave up their humanity in the pursuit of survival or perfection.

Daleks are far more interesting than dreadnoughts are.

Starship troopers is another predating 40k that features cybernetic replacements.

"Powered armor" is also derived from that novel unless im mistaken. And while on that sidenote, the "Mobile Infantry" pretty much envisions what I imagine and expect from Space Marines in 40k but with super jumpjets

How did LOTR rip off Pokemon? Necrons seem closer to doing that...

LOTR ripped off Harry Potter, not Pokemon.

The chosen boy gets thrust into a world of magic, and must destroy the horcux that keeps the Dark Lord attached to this world, while the Dark Lord is massing his army to conquer the world.

Although Frodo/Sam did work better than Harry/Ginny.

Much like how you have people who sincerely say, 'GW totally ripped off X' when X is just another example of a common sci-fi trope or cliche, I'm sure that when Robocop came out, there were plenty of existing 'man becomes machine and struggles to find his humanity once more' stories that were very similar, because it's not an uncommon sci-fi trope.

To help counter the OP's ignorance, i'd point out that DC 's character Cyborg was created in the late 70s.

Isaac Asimov wrote several stories along such lines throughout his long career. I recall one that involved robots getting organic implants to become more human, while humans were getting robot parts to improve their frailties, with the implication that eventually there'd be a convergance where you wouldn't know who'd been robot descended and who'd been human descended. Cordwainer Smith played around with ideas along those lines, and he died 20 years before Robocop was made.Neuromancer came out well before Robocop did. I haven't even touched on movies. The list is extensive.
