So in another rule debate, someone pointed out that the Dark Eldar Codex says they cannot be both Drukhari and Ynnari.

The Ynnari FAQ says yes. However, the Dark Eldar codex was not similarly FAQed.

What should take precedence? Presumably the index FAQ trumps the codex.

It says that the Detachment is no longer a Drukhari detachment but rather a Ynnari detachment, it does not say that the units in the detachment are no longer Drukhari units. They are Drukhari units in the Ynnari detachment. What's the issue?

The issue would be that if it's not a Drukhari Detachment it doesn't get the Stratagems / Traits / Relics, rather than not being able to use "Drukhari" as the detachment faction keyword?

The proper choice is whichever of the 2 rules was published last. That would be the latest designer decision on the matter.

Oh, I see. But the FAQ clearly says that you can use the Craftworld/Harlequin/Drukhari stratagems, warlord traits, relics, etc. I think anyone tells you that you can't use your Drukhari stratagems on your Drukhari units in a battleforge Ynnari army than you shouldn't play them.

Does GW need to answer the same question in every FAQ that it's relevant for? Would it not make more sense to put that answer in the Ynnari FAQ and be done with it?

I think what the Codex is saying is that you cannot soup your Reborn detachments. You need to have a detachment of only Drukhari units as part of your Ynnari force, you cannot mix your Drukhari with other units as a single detachment if you want to retain access to their stratagems.

They were both published on April 16 as part of the big FAQ.

The issue is normally, codex trumps index, and while index rules say "yes" to Stratagems, the codex rules say no. Is this an exception where the index trumps the codex, or can this be used to find index FAQs to override parts of a codex that we don't like?

Typical GW giving 2 different answers to the same question. All I can suggest is that you talk it over with your opponent/TO and write to GW and wait for an official response.

Found it. Stratagems were not mentioned in the Codex as being excluded. It however is no longer a Drukhari Detachment. It looks like another detachment would have to unlock Stratagems.

It's still a conflict there since one thing is saying it's still a Drukhari detachment and another thing is saying no it isn't.

Best to have another Drukhari detachment though to be on the safe side so there's no question about the stratagems being unlocked.

Maybe I'm still missing something because I don't see the conflict.

If you include one of the three characters in a Drukhari Detachment, it ceases to be a Drukhari detachment and is now a Ynnari detachment. If you do not include those Ynnari characters than it can remain a Drukhari detachment. What one needs to do is include a detachment of exclusively Drukhari units in their Ynnari force. As long as you have a detachment with the Ynnari characters and one of them as a Warlord, you can then take a Drukhari detachment as part of your Ynnari force.

What you cannot do is include the Ynnari characters in your Drukhari detachment and use the stratagems, you need at least 1 detachment of 100% Drukhari units.

"If a detachment includes any YNARRI units, it is no longer a DRUKHARI detachment..."

"The detachment is still considered to be a Craftworlds, Harlequin or Drukhari Detachment...."

Yes.

If the detachment includes any Ynarri units than it is no longer a Drukhari detachment. If you include one of the characters, than all the units in that detachment gain the Ynarri keyword and the detachment ceases to be a Drukhari detachment, as per the Drukhari codex.

Unless an FAQ is released, the way to access Drukhari stratagems is to have a Drukhari detachment, meaning not a single Ynarri unit can be present in that detachment. Craftworld and Harlequin detachments, unless there are equivalents to the Drukhari rule, can retain their Craftworld or Harlequin identity while including the Ynarri characters.

Didn't the Drukhari book come out in March? And then the FAQ was released in April.

*Edit* I went and found the FAQ section located in the Big FAQ and the Xenos Index FAQ from April. I do believe that the Drukhari book was already out at this point. It does seem like the FAQ overrides the Codex rule and it also simply makes more sense.
