Really? There is an expectation in Florida that a restaurant is supposed to somehow safeguard it's patrons from firearms? That's ludicrous.

An interesting comment my friend made about the whole Trump Google thing.

On TrumpNews™ I've seen a number of interesting theories, my favorite of which is that since Google builds a profile based on which links you click, he probably only clicks on the negative articles, so Google shows him those.

No idea about the safeguarding them from firearms, as far as I know a case like this hasn't been tried in Florida. I was just talking about how pure comparative negligence standards in Tort law work in general.

Perhaps not for day-to-day operations, however this was an event. This was the Madden tournament shooting we're talking about. . . . Not Tim Roth holding up Sam Jackson in a Denny's in Pulp Fiction (ie, no event going on, just normal day to day operations going on)

Now, I do think that if the case is not thrown out, it may have a lot of knock on effects for other businesses who host gaming events/tournaments.

Nothing weird or alarming about this.

'These are violent people': Trump reportedly told Christian leaders there would be 'violence' if the GOP lost in midterms

Alex Brandon/AP

  • President Donald Trump on Monday night reportedly told evangelical Christian leaders there would be "violence" if Republicans lost their majority in Congress as a result of November's midterm elections.

  • "You're one election away from losing everything that you've got," Trump said, according to the report.

  • If Republicans did lose big to Democrats, Trump said, "They will overturn everything that we've done and they'll do it quickly and violently, and violently."

  • President Donald Trump on Monday night reportedly told evangelical Christian leaders there would be "violence" if Republicans lost their majority in Congress as a result of November's midterm elections.

Trump suggested Democrats would "quickly" and "violently" overturn gains he's made for conservative Christians, according to excerpts of the closed-door meeting obtained by NBC News.

"You're one election away from losing everything that you've got," Trump said, according to the NBC News report. "The level of hatred, the level of anger is unbelievable." Trump apparently went on to say that the midterm elections were not only a referendum on him.

If Republicans were to lose big to Democrats, Trump reportedly said: "They will overturn everything that we've done and they'll do it quickly and violently, and violently. There's violence. When you look at Antifa and you look at some of these groups — these are violent people."

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

During Monday's meeting, Trump also reportedly repeated a previously debunked claim that he'd gotten rid of a law that prohibits churches and charitable organizations from endorsing political candidates. Presidents do not have the constitutional authority to repeal laws.

Trump was apparently referencing what is known as the Johnson Amendment. In May, Trump signed an executive order aimed at undermining the law, but legal experts have said say the executive step was largely symbolic. Efforts to kill the law in Congress have stalled.

Donald Trump got up at 5 a.m. Tuesday to Google his own name.

In a series of tweets on his favorite media platform, the U.S. president attacked Google for showing “only the viewing/reporting of Fake News Media,” claiming that 96 percent of the search results were from “national left-wing media” — a situation Trump called “very dangerous.”

"Google search results for ‘Trump News’ shows only the viewing/reporting of Fake News Media," POTUS raged. “In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD. Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out. Illegal?”

He followed up with a very specific claim about Google's supposed bias toward left-leaning media:

“96 percent of results on 'Trump News' are from National Left-Wing Media, very dangerous. Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good. They are controlling what we can & cannot see. This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!"

Following Trump’s tweets, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told reporters the administration was “taking a look” at whether Google and its search engine should be regulated by the government

It appears that Trump couldn’t sleep after seeing a segment on a Fox News show presented by Lou Dobbs and aired on Monday evening related to exactly this issue — a report that was based on an article posted by conservative blog PJ Media that admitted its results were “not scientific.”

As New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman points out, we should have know it wasn’t Trump’s own online searches that led to his tweets, given he doesn’t use a computer.

Google presents search results based on an algorithm that takes into account a large number of variables — including your search history, location and what sites you frequently visit.

Many people on Twitter pointed out that the term ”Trump news” returns a number of articles from the pro-Trump Fox News network, as well as positive stories from organizations such as the BBC.

Others noted that Google’s algorithm is constantly changing and no single set of results is conclusive proof of the a bias toward or against any specific political viewpoint.

Trump’s attack comes a week before Google, Facebook, and Twitter will once again face questioning on Capitol Hill about censorship and election meddling.

    Google

Google responded to Trump’s claims by saying that “search is not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology.”

“Every year, we issue hundreds of improvements to our algorithms to ensure they surface high-quality content in response to users’ queries,” Google added in a statement. “We continually work to improve Google Search and we never rank search results to manipulate political sentiment.”

More than 1,000 first responders from across the country threw their support behind net neutrality protections on Tuesday, with a letter demanding that lawmakers in Congress pass the Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to reverse the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)'s repeal of net neutrality.

"We are joining with millions of businesses, veterans, and Internet users in asking Congress to use their Congressional Review Act (CRA) powers to restore the strong net neutrality rules and other consumer protections that were lost when the FCC voted to repeal its 2015 Open Internet Order," reads an letter endorsed by the internet freedom advocacy group Fight for the Future.

The letter comes days after Californians got a first-hand look at how their lives are already being affected by internet service providers (ISPs) that are unencumbered by net neutrality rules, which prohibit companies like Verizon and Comcast from slowing down internet speeds and creating paid "fast lanes" for wealthy internet companies.

As Common Dreams reported last week, Verizon throttled, or slowed down, data speeds for the Santa Clara County fire department and suggested it should pay an extra fee for faster service—while fire fighters were battling some of California's biggest wildfires ever earlier this summer.

Verizon's move "had a significant impact on our ability to provide emergency services," according to fire chief Tony Bowden, and the throttling resulted in a loud endorsement of California's state-level net neutrality bill (SB 822), which the state Assembly could vote on as early as Tuesday, by the California Professional Firefighters (CPF) union.

The incident provoked emergency workers from California as well as other states to urge the passage of the CRA.

"Our call paging system relies on private ISPs to relay information from 911 dispatchers to ambulances—it is unconscionable for corporations to endanger public safety for the sake of profit," said Corey, a paramedic in San Diego, in a personal note added to the open letter.

"EMTs rely on data to receive pages, vital paperwork necessary for patient care, and to help locate calls outside of our service area," added Larry, an EMT based in Little Rock, Arkansas. "Throttling speeds can delay care and cost lives."

Yeah.... Throttling some firemen is a great idea... not.... I understand that verzion is a company but come on.

President Donald Trump reportedly told Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the White House in June that he remembered Pearl Harbor and then ripped Abe for Japan’s trade and economic policies.

The conversation served as an unusual example of Trump lashing out at Abe, who has defended the president and served as his public ally, The Washington Post reported Tuesday. Recently, however, Trump's negative opinions of Japan's trade practices, as well as a disagreement between the pair regarding the president's tactics in dealing with North Korea, have caused a rift, according to the Post.

“I remember Pearl Harbor,” Trump reportedly told Abe as part of a tirade against the U.S. trade deficit with Japan. The president reportedly wanted better deals to help U.S. car and beef producers.

Trump was referring to the Japanese attack on the Hawaiian base in 1941 that launched the U.S. into World War II. Although it's unclear what he actually meant by the remark, in the decades following the war, Japan has had a limited military and served as home to a number of U.S. bases. Only in recent years has Japan expanded its military capabilities.

Only in recent years has Japan expanded its military capabilities.

Trump has met with Abe more times than he has any other world leader, including eight meetings and more than two dozen phone calls.

The president has also twice hosted Abe and his contingency at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, most recently in April and while Trump was working on a summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.

Despite their apparent closeness, Trump was described as having “ignored” Abe’s advice on not ending military drills on the Korean Peninsula prior to June’s summit with Kim.

And now even Abe’s top advisers believe Trump is “uncontrollable,” even by Chief of Staff John Kelly, Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis or national security adviser John Bolton, an unnamed source described as close to Abe told the Post.

In no place I have ever lived has a "Beware of Dog" sign been used in the way you describe. . . . A family friend of mine used to breed/raise Jack Russel Terriers, she had beware of dog signs posted on all 4 fence sides. A neighbor had their indoor cat escape, directly into my friend's yard and specifically in the pen where the puppies were at. . . . She was notified of something wrong by yapping and screeching, so she goes out, shoos the dogs off, scoops the cat back together (literally), and takes it to HER vet. . . She pays for the cat's surgery, meds/treatment, etc. out of her own pockets/insurance.

Said neighbor, upon the return of her cat, opened a civil suit to which the judge gave a stern lecture to the cat owner and promptly threw the case out, citing that my friend had done her due diligence in notifying outsiders to the presence of the dogs.

Info wars isn't even news - it was just a channel for crazy nut jobs to get their jollies. Lets get real though - The American media is 90% Liberal. The people are more or less divided equally as dems and republicans. This is not an unbiased media.

Take that as you will - it's not really a problem - people don't watch news they don't want to watch. Young people are most likely to be affected by the bias but they were all most likely going to start their lives with liberal views anyways. It probably does give people in the middle a very uneven look at things. I find it more of a problem the stories they chose to run and how quickly they will make issues political on supposedly middle of the road media sources. Obviously Fox news does this to but it is really just reactionary.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Fox news isn't reactionary, they flat out make stories up then issue a 10 second reaction right at the end of a segment. Hell, fox goes to crazy lengths to make things political. Remember the time they tried to make Obama look bad because he wore a tan suit, or because he used Dijon mustard?

And, iirc fox news isn't listed as a news source or journalism but as "entertainment"

Is he going crazy or something?

To go crazy there's one requirement. To be non-crazy at one point. So no he isn't going crazy. He always has been.
Indeed. He has been clearly so for some time now. I doubt he was always like that, but he certainly was by the time he hit the campaign trail.

I wouldn't doubt him going crazier... I mean during the campaign trail he some horrible things which is what made me lose interest. Especially this bit by him made me despise him.

Without a doubt I hope he hears the bells of justice and his need to advocate leaving the presidency. His presidency has left a black mark on american history. Its really sad how terrible of presidency it has gotten. There is news daily about the terrible stuff done under his watch, from puerto ricans losing as many people from the hurricane as 9/11 or children, babies detained and stolen from their parents and thrown into literal cages.

Failing to deliever peace between the US and North Korea....

Causing economic turmoil with a useless trade war. With 0 understanding of how it actually works.

Rolling back EPA restrictions other than just being a dick.

Trying to build a completely useless border wall....

Misunderstanding and misconstruing, gaslighting about immigration to a ridiculous degree.

Going in front of a bunch of Boy Scouts and talking about sex yachts.

Or defending the Alt Right Marches in Charleston.... Its impossible to tell how farther he can sink as a president. Lame Duck President? More like an anti-american President. He does whatever he feels not what is best for the American People, often going against the majority because of the voice of the minority white evagencials.... Yet people support him and eat up his propagandist machine Fox News literally everyday.
