I'm staring down the barrel of 40 bloodletters that need to be base coated. Is there a spray that is as close as humanly possible to Khorne Red? And I mean can spray, not air gun.

What's wrong with Mephiston spray? Or did you want a cheaper option?

Khorne red is a deeper red, almost a purple tint to it.It is very noticeable put side by side

Then use washes to darken it/give a purple tint.

I'm not aware of a darker red spray, but using the army painter tubs of quickshade after the GW red spray might be the quickest/fewest steps to get what you're after short of buying an airbrush.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

You'll have to wash it anyway, just be more generous with the wash.

Except that you won't? Washing isn't an obligatory step and it all depends on what you want to do with the Khorne Red layer. If that's going to be your shadow colour then you'll leave it as is, particularly if you want it as unadulterated Khorne Red. It's also perfectly easy to paint in your shading rather than using a wash if you want it as the mid-tone.

OP - cheap as feth airbrush and regular Khorne Red paint? Basically mimic a spray can as far as possible.

It's not obligatory but I think most people find the easiest way to do masses of models is: spray, detail, wash and highlight/dry brush.

You might be best off doing a coat of Mephiston Red spray followed by a thin coat of Khorne Red.

The OP doesn't have an airbrush, thus the desire for a rattle can.

Apologies. Didn’t read that right. Then no. I would say if it’s forty troops to paint red then get a big brush and slap it on. It’ll take less time than you think if it’s just going all over them.

Dragon Red is closer to Mephiston Red. There's a darker Army Painter red but I haven't sprayed it before.

I think AP Chaotic Red is darker than Khorne, so whichever way it's not going to be exact.

OP, do they have to be exactly Khorne red? I know the name is appropriate, but you could get there in less steps if you were happy with Army Painter Chaotic Red or Dragon Red as the main colour, since they're in spraycans.

What about Tamiya Dull Red, it appears to be a purple red. How exact I am unsure (unlikely to be a perfect match).

And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. " - V

Always be wary of digital colour rather than actual paint in a picture.

The Mephiston Red Spray, given an allover wash with Druchii Violet mixed with Lahmian Medium, comes extremely close to Khorne Red.

Army Painter's Chaotic Red spray should come pretty close.

I base my CSM in Army Painter Chaotic Red. It is a beautiful brownish red that I Iove, but it is not even close to Khorne Red.

My first armour highlight is with Khorne Red.

Please judge for yourself, pics are in my blog.

Is no fun, is no Blinsky!
