How in the Eye of Terror did we survive through editions of 40k where there was silence for months and even years.... now, we're used to getting all this huge news stories and rumours every week that suddenly nothing new happen for a week or two and I feel like I'll never get 40k news again?! Especially as a Xenos none knight player... I feel like GW has forgotten about us even though they only spoke about us like 3 weeks ago?! What is wrong with me? It's not like I'm jealous of AoS, we survived many editions of Fantasy in the past... but I've just become so spoiled for new things that I'm outright bored as squig in a bath because I'm not talking about or seeing new things... it's so bad I'm now complaining GW has spoiled me too much! What kind of world do we live in where GW brings out a new index and codex within the space of a month and I'm contemplating about complaining that we need more news! A few years ago i would have been happy if GW sneezed and accidentally created a Facebook post!

Dakka 5 years ago: "what does it mean?? Interpret it, interpret it!!"

Meanwhile at GW HQ: "bloomin' 'eck, George, ya got bogies all over the keyboard!"

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Lol, kids these days, no patience
Back in the day you had only one release day per month and that could have been non-40k stuff for 3 month in a row. And I think the longest time it took a codex to be updated was 10 years

Once upon a Wednesday dreary, while I typed, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten Ork lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a pinging,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my notification bell.
“’Tis some fake rumours,” I muttered, “pinging on my Facebook wall—
Only this and nothing more.”

Ah, distinctly I remember it was as bleak as December;
And each separate dying thread wrought its heresy upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow;—vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost 40k Ork codex—
For the rare and radiant Codex whom the Mork and Gork name 8th editon 40k ork codex—
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each blue notification
Thrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
“’Tis some fakeBoLS rumour at my notification wall—
Some late unsoruced news pinging at my notification bell;—
This it is and nothing more.”

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
“Okay google,” said I, “or Alexa, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came pinging,
And so faintly you came buzzing, buzzing at my Facebook wall,
That I scarce was sure I heard you”—here I opened wide the tab;—
Darkness there and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered words, “8th edition Ork codex?”
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Is that a new Ork walker in this blury picture that clearly shows a conversation?!”—
Merely this and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a pinging somewhat louder than before.
“Surely,” said I, “surely that is something at my news window;
Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore—
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;—
’Tis the Spikey Bits copying and pasting old rumours and nothing more!”

Open here I flung the switch, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately Ork Rumour of the saintly Celestine days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made it; not a minute stopped or stayed it;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched upon my phone—
Perched upon a notification from twitter just above my email for cheap ebay deals—
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this emerald rumour beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it jpeg'd,
“Though thy words be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Rumour wandering from the News shore—
Tell me what thy lordly leak is on the Russians Shops shore!”
Quoth the Rumour “Nevermore.”

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning—little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing rumours on his facebook wall—
True or fake upon the sculptured bells above his news icons,
With such name as “Nevermore.”

But the Rumour, sitting lonely on the placid bell, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing farther then he uttered—not a PNG then he fluttered—
Till I scarcely more than muttered “Other rumours have come before—
On the morrow this one will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before.”
Then the rumour wrote “Nevermore.”

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
“Doubtless,” said I, “what it utters is its only stock and store
Caught from some unhappy dakkadakka member whom unmerciful Disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till its songs one burden bore—
Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore
Of ‘Never—nevermore’.”

But the Rumor still beguiling all my fancy into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of news, and bell and Facebook wall;
Then, upon the pixels sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous rumour of yore—
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous rumour of yore
Meant in typing “Nevermore.”

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery comments now burned into my bosom’s core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion’s velvet lining that the painting lamp-light gloated o’er,
But whose Facebook posts with the leaks gloating o’er,
I shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then, methought, the air grew denser, deodorant from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls stomped on the tufted floor.
“Wretch,” I cried, “thy Emperor hath lent thee—by these angels he hath sent thee
Respite—respite and nepenthe from thy memories of good Ork codecies;
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost 4th edition codex!”
Quoth the Rumours “Nevermore.”

“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if news or abaddon!—
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted—
On this Facebook by Horror haunted—tell me truly, I implore—
Is there—is there balm in Gillaman?—tell me—tell me, I implore!”
Quoth the Rumour “Nevermore.”

“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if news or lies!
By that Holy Terra that bends above us—by that Emperor we both adore—
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a solid book whom the Gretchins name 8th edition Ork Codex—
Clasp a rare and radiant peice of work whom the Gretchins name 8th edition Ork Codex.”
Quoth the Rumour “Nevermore.”

“Be that word our sign of parting, news or squig!” I shrieked, upstarting—
“Get thee back into the tempest and the local none GW gaming stores!
Leave no book mark as a token of that lie thy bad research hath spoken!
Leave my Chrome unbroken!—quit the tab above my porn!
Take thy Gif from out my heart, and take thy form from off my browser history!”
Quoth the Rumour “Nevermore.”

And the Rumour, never flitting, still is open, still is BS
On the glimmer ing tab of Chrome just above my top 10 Slaanesh paint schemes;
And its lies have all the seeming of a daemon’s that is dreaming,
And the painting-light o’er it streaming throws its shadow on the desk;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the desk,
Shall be lifted—nevermore!

Wasn't Orks around 16 years from 3rd to whenever they got their newer rules? They had that little 20 page codex back then and eventually the Armaggedon book.

Then there's the Sisters. 2nd to... 5th? And even then it was just a White Dwarf issue (well 2 issues because GW). Codex: Witchhunters doesn't count!

No, Orks got many dexes, I think even every edition.
If you don't count Witchhunters or anything only available in WD or digital, then SoB are probably the winner, else Dark Eldar IIRC.

Space Wolves had to use their 3rd dex until mid 5th.

We misssed one or two. I think people believe we missed more than we did because A. They came out later during the mid to end cycle so by that point we were forgotten. B. Some how the Ork codecies got worse every single edition so a lot of people like to forget they ever happened.

Orks definitely waited 10 years after their initial 3rd edition codex with just the speeda freeks list to tide them over and even that was still during 3rd.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

Meh, I'd rather have 10 years of 3rd edition than see the 7e codex again. XD

Wow, 3rd ork was 99, 4th 2008. So even with a codex in ebrry Edition they waites long
Dark Elmar was 2003 to 2010 so they don't win
7+ years was actually pretty common.

Dark Eldar didn't get a codex in 2003, it was 98 or 99.

Might have been a reprint with one extra page - vehicle upgrades which weren't in the original dex and got published in WD.

I think it is just because we are at the end of a year's worth of Codex releases. All that's left is Orks, Space Wolves, Ynnari (if they do) and Genestealer Cults.

I'm hoping once they are out that we will start to see more releases like campaign books and the like.

T9A: Vampire Covenants 2060pts.

I think that part of it is that we're spoiled now. It was hard to wait back in the day though, too. I remember being jealous in 3rd of the people who had codexes while we were still playing out of the back of the main rule book.

Part if it is a mix of petty jealously and legitimate consternation that most everyone else has had their turn and we're still waiting. Someone had to go last, but having a whole new faction (sort of) released before we get our book and then being on the far end of a major release with no news in sight also sucks.

They might come out with a bunch of great new models and/or such a flavorful and competitive book that it will all be worth it. Then again we might get stuck with some hot garbage. I guess even so it's not a serious problem to have.

I think Orks didn't get codexes in 5th or 6th, but those were the editions during which I was taking a break from Warhammer, so I'm not sure.

Also, while we didn't get a 3.5 Dex the supplements for Speed Freaks and feral orks that came out around the Third War for Armageddon were pretty fun.

Yeah, Orks took a major dive in the Ward period I hear. I left during that time but i read the books and they started off okay (crap compared to some factions) and then slowly got worse even in comparison to most factions.
I hope they got that Orky dude to help out in the codex...

But yet. We are just spoiled. However, I would be upset if we were left until last but got nothing (i mean our codex is basically worthless levels of nothing). What was the point of waiting at that point.

Indeed. Roughly every 3 months there was a rotation between 40k and WFB.

One change in the last year or two has been GW's clamping down on rumors, we useally had SOME sort of leaks to discuss even if it was the inevitable "so I hear sisters of batt;e may be soon" so we have a lot less to discuss as the rumors tend to start a lot later then they used to

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I believe this was the case. DE were released at the start of 3rd in the starter set vs SM and the codex came right after, at the very least. They did release an updated codex (it was the same codex marked with a sticker on the cover so you knew the codex had the missing pages iirc) but the DE had the longest dry spell of any of the armies up until their redesign, for armies that weren't abandoned at one point. At the time everyone figured the GSC were squatted and many people thought the DE might follow, so I think both deserve their own separate achievement categories.

Yeah. About a 14 year wait.

I literally played people who were born after my minis had left the shelves (for good, we thought.. ) until the big rerelease in 6th redid the whole line.

More than once I got refused for a game AT A GW because they didn’t believe that they were GW minis, and neither did the Black/Redshirt ...

I don’t play them anymore, but I harbored a festering love/hate of GW at the time that fit the army pretty well
