As the title suggests. I'm looking for some help on hand painting power weapons. Rather than using an airbrush.

Not that I'm against air brushing. More that I enjoy painting by hand.

Thanks again.

I mostly paint my PW in 2 ways, power up or down; power down is rather easy, just paint in metallic, then highlight edges with silver, then purple wash over it subtlety.

power up require the use of some detail brushes and sharp xacto knife tips. I paint the weapon in dark purple, then layers of medium purple and edge highlight with magenta,

then use thin detail brush to do tree/lightning hair lines from the power source in russ grey, use knife tip to sharpen certain veins to make it look natural, I see too many people not using the subtractive process thus their lines look like spaghetti rather than a pencil line; then I put some brighter dots in the joints of the trees with bluish off white, making sure all the lines look right then a purple wash to blend it together.

most times there is a bulb spot on the power weapon, i paint it egg shell( from purple to light blue) then a brush on gloss varnish on top.

Concept is the same, just change the colors around; instead of purple use dark red highlight to orange; then the lightning sparks in yellow or warm white not cold(blue) white; instead of imperium blue plasma highlight to blue white; use orange and highlight to yellow.
