Amazing looking podracer! And I totally agree with the need to adjust pallets for miniature painting. The contrast is definitely required to catch the eye from typical viewing distances (around 3 feet I believe) and then details added to make the up close inspection a treat for the viewer.

Thank you. I was also thinking of adding some flames out of strung-out cotton or energy between the two engines out of fishing-line. I don't know, perhaps be a bit much. We'll see

Bike finished.
Not bad even if I do say so me self.

Looks amazing as is! I don't think it needs the flames at all, once you throw a rider on there it'll be perfect.

Indeed, however it needs something! and I think I figured out what!

Presenting the EVIL CHAIN!

First is the podracer engines got an extra blade on the bottom from extra bits. turned out really well, now the engines look supper nifty.

Second the evil chain between the engines grouped up the whole model together in a DE way.

Tried to paint each body part separately.
Just glue all painted pieces together, should be easy. Nope.

These must be older casts where things did not line up well and instructions were abysmal... wait let me see, YES! the sprues are labeled 2010 and 2013.
The rider would not:
1 - sit on the seat
2 - have feet touch the foot-rests
3 - both hands hold the bike-handles firmly
4 - the arms fit snugly with the torso
all at same time.

If the arms are glued to torso first, then they would be misaligned and not reach the bike handles. If the arms are glued to handles first, then the arms would awkwardly bend/glue to torso at an slight angle with a gap.
So, some greenstuffing had to happen.

The pieces are defiantly easier to paint separately, however there is a balance and planning involved. There are certain pieces that are better to paint post-gluing and some pre-gluing.

That chain if freaking cool! I love the extra hooks added to it, it's definitely a very DE styled weapon. I dig it.

All finished!
Two small squads of 3 Reaver bikes.
The 2 Arena Champions have different helmets, bare arms, and X blades on the bikes.

Will take a break from DE for now.
Still have squads of wytches, kabalites, HQs, and one Venom to go

Enjoy

Resuming work for 65th Painting challenge
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/789626.page

I like painting each piece separately, however it is challenging without a proper grip, but still better than trying to get the brush into a tight spot.

Legs are done and on base, finally something to hold on too.
Torsos are done as well, was a hassle to glue in the picks but so useful!

In attempt to maintain weird color scheme, I find this forum log super useful.
I can go back to one year ago and actually see what paints and in what order to layers those paints.

Aye, the blue-to-red gives the whole range of warm-to-cool purple. It's quite gorgeous, especially next to the cream cloth and pale flesh!

Yep, the contrast is the key. I am not really good with paint application and have to rely on contrast to do the work for me.

Thank you!

In my art training I have picked up on "outlining" flesh in red.
The idea is that the skin is thinnest on the edges and light shines through with a red hint.

That is the attempt to shade or "outline" flesh parts in reddish yellow. Perhaps will go back with a bit of light peach to blend in the outlines with the white flesh better.

Having torso and arms painted separetly, and the legs separately allows me to pose the model and have ease of brush access to the undercuts at the same time.

Gluing painted parts together is a challenge, handling pieces and applying pressure rubs off or damages painted parts....
I think I will spray them with varnish before gluing, why did I not think of that before.

Depends on what glue you're using. Plastic glue won't take overtop of varnish.

I did not even think of that.
Yes, plus it is a hassle.

So, I figured that nitrate glove is soft enough to handle pieces without ruining them. No need for varnish.

Mini-painting-Holder prototype 0.1

Wanted something naturally fit in hand, and allow natural hand movement to flip model 180.
and not spend money.

The idea was to have an attachment that in a way will hold the mini with open hand or relaxed hand.
Natural range of motion with open hand will position mini upside down, and closed fist will have mini up right.

Progress.

Thank you sir.

Progress.
Inspiration for basing, came from (The Salt Pits of Hoxxes), and a bit from (Planet Crait).

Red sand - Modpoge - Dense packing foam cut into salt crystal formations, and red sandwich pick for crystals.

Tried to invert the usual light on dark coloration of hydra gauntlets, light base and dark spikes.
It looked simple, but never quite worked out the way I wanted.

Very nice looking wych squad, they may have taken longer than expected but they were well worth the effort. I'm especially in love with the Hydra Gauntlets. The flesh is very striking and a nice standout feature.

Nice looking Wyches! Your color choices are great, everything is so vivid. The basing is quite effective. I like the use of the cocktail stirrers.
