FW is clearing house of the Renegade Militia kits. Is this the end? If so, what a disappointment.

It's possible this is to prepare us for the full GW release of Traitor Guard.
Which would probably be a downloadable Index with Spikey graphics and the words Hell, Damned and Warp in front of some keywords but otherwise identical to 2/3rds of Codex: Corsa Miitarium

There is some speculation GW will shut down FW because they cannot compete with resin casting pirates.

The source is speculation by random people. And it directly contradicts the fact that FW is continuing to add new kits and new product lines, while most of the discontinued stuff has been pretty obvious slow sellers. There's really not that much new here, FW has been discontinuing poor sellers for years, it's just now putting it up on "last chance to buy" makes it obvious compared to how they used to silently remove kits from the store and eventually someone might notice. It's frustrating and stupid when a cast on demand business model would work just fine, but let's not pretend that FW is touching any of their core product lines or best sellers.

I really hope in this case it's being removed because GW is prepping to give us a plastic "lost and the damned" army and codex.

I am tired of people who take certain FW certain which are obviously points under costed and arguing by comparing it to other balanced FW units or undercosted GW models. You are cherry picking your fights when the main problem is that FW do not publish balanced rules or appropriately cost their models because they do not co-ordinate with GW rules writers. Worst case is when they hire previous GW writers to make rules for FW in the sense the person has worked for GW and is credible.
I hope FW goes away or gets re integrated into GW parent company.

Cast-on-demand seems like the right business model for them; no need for a warehouse. I doubt the Renegade Militia molds, or any of the recent last chances for that matter, are worn out. You could probably house all of FW's molds, since the dawn of in time, in a relatively small space (if that is really the issue).

how would "cordinating" with GW improve things at all?

GW doesn't coordinate with GW or produce balanced rules either, so I'm not really sure what your point is other than acting as your user name suggests.

Sad days.
Was thinking of starting up my R&H army again the saw this...dammit.
Not to fret...GSC have great conversion opportunities.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

Yeah they would have learned this ages ago, but they are still committed to the HH series, 40k and even the hobbit. Yeah those rumours sound like complete nonsense. Plus you can only get a re-cast for a handful of models, mostly the most popular ones. Jeez, this is getting pretty indicative of a big shift in the business model now.
FW is failing to produce rules, squatting whole armies, and remaining unresponsive in its costing model to the flood of pirates that are now sailing the resin seas.

It would be good to have a poll to see who buys re-casts, to see if FW are really in trouble.

There goes the last counts-as daemonhost for Eisenhorn.
Good that forgeworld at least remember to use their 'last chance' system for anyone who has been holding off on a model.

Recasts are not a new thing. Losing a percentage of potential sales to recasters is just business as usual.
Also, no, it isn't a huge shift in the business model. Again, most of the OOP stuff is poor sellers that mostly won't be missed. Elysians were a cool idea but the kits were awful. Too many dumb poses, and they were a nightmare to assemble. Most of the Elysian armies I've seen have been third-party kits using the FW rules. And traitor militia were in a similar bad position with a limited model range and a strategy pretty much consisting of "spam tons of conscript-tier infantry" that has high overlap with the plastic cultist kit. It may have been fun to think about building a traitor militia army, but how many people actually bought the kits once they realized how much money and conversion work was going to be required?

There were a lot of models moved to LCTB in the past few months.
But they were almost entirely quirky upgrade kits that had a tiny crowd, characters of sub-factions (like awkward chapters) that maybe had 100 sells over their lifetime, etc.
This set, while practically phasing out an "army", still contains mostly things I don't see selling.
Heavy stubber team? anyone EVER bought these?
Then you had the 6th edition cultist models, who cut deep into the sells for these guys, because they easily get the same point across.
Then you had the GSC release, who vut even more-as they quite easily double for RnH if you just add some chaos symbols instead of the GSC symbols.
This current batch is mostly just too easy to convert your own and/or find alternate GW models who are cheaper, easier to work with, and mostly better looking as the FW molds are pretty darn old.
Overall-not a great loss even if it doesn't sign a future release of RnH replacing the things phased out.
