I'm in the process of building an emperor's children list which is getting costly with the kitbashing to get the models how I want them. So I've decided to grab 2 boxes of know no fear to play with while I build up the emperor's children over time. The current plan is to also get a malignant plaguecaster, blight-hauler and a couple packs of push fit intercessors. Then do up those 3 intercessors as a primaris captain, lieutenant and an ancient and use 5 to round out the third troop slot in a full primaris list.

The lists I've written up so far are

Death Guard 996pts
Spoiler:
HQ
Lord of Contagion with plaguereaper
Malignant Plaguecaster

Troops
Plague Marines, 4 marines + champion with plasma gun
Plague Marines, 4 marines + champion with plasma gun
Poxwalkers 17 models

Fast Attack
Foetid Bloat-drone with plaguespitters
Foetid Bloat-drone with plaguespitters
Myphitic Blight-hauler 1 model

Primaris Marines 994pts
Spoiler:
HQ
Primaris Captain with MC bolt rifle and power sword
Primaris Lieutenant with MC bolt rifle

Troops
Intercessor Squad 5 models with bolt rifles
Intercessor Squad 5 models with bolt rifles
Intercessor Squad 5 models with bolt rifles

Elite
Primaris Ancient

Fast Attack
Inceptor Squad 3 models with assault bolters

Heavy Support
Hellblaster Squad 5 models with plasma incenerators
Hellblaster Squad 5 models with plasma incenerators

I want the lists to be solid enough to hold their own in a casual environment while being as cost effective as possible. Are these the most cost effective cash wise ways to start 1000pt lists for death guard and primaris marines from 2 know no fear boxes? Or should I consider getting something else instead of a blight-hauler for the death guard? Are there any obvious holes in either list that I should be aware of? I'm not aiming to get them to be particularly competitive just a good balance of cash to playability to jump back into the game after a break. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Can't speak for the Primaris but I'd probably say go for another Bloat Drone instead of the Hauler. They're not that great as just one and far too points heavy to have Trilobe in a 1k list. Another Bloat Drone though with a mower would cause merry hell.

If those marine champs don't have plague swords or power fists and that unit of pox is 20, you'd be looking at 995pts.

Sounds like you enjoy the converting - but these three are usually available pretty cheaply on eBay (at least in the UK they are!)

With a bloat drone with a mower I'd either need to get the drone kit which would cost almost as much as the rest of the army did or to get a third drone from a starter and get a mower off ebay. Getting bitz here can be a bit of a pain though because postage tends to be excessive in Australia and there's not many places that seem to stock bitz here domestically. I figured giving cover to the poxwalkers combined with the cheap price of the push fit kit would make the single hauler worth considering.

Getting bitz and used things in Australia can be a bit hit or miss. The main reason I was thinking of just converting them was for time though because I wanted to ideally have everything gathered and assembled by next weekend when the local group is moving to a location where it's convenient for me to jump back into the hobby. I figured the lieutenant is just painting a helmet differently, ancient is just slapping on a banner and slap on a cape to another for a captain. I'm looking into getting the ones from dark imperium on ebay though to weigh up the options.

Gotchya and apologies - didn't realise you're in Oz. I'm a big fan of the Haulers so would say go for it. One day you'll have the Trilobe I'm sure! What you have would be a great place to start and a fairly solid 1k list.

Would probably aim to have the Haulers giving cover predominantly to the marines though. 2+ save to shooting isn't to be scoffed at whereas 6+ for poxes isn't that grand. Sure it'll save 1 or 2 every now and then but the main staying power of pox is Disgusting Resilient which is just... disgusting!

Have a look at the Suppurating Plate for the LoC if you haven't already. It's great for close combat units. Arch Contaminator might work well on him as well if you aim to have him near your Drones.

I wouldn't expect anyone to realise I was down here, I use a vpn so it shows my flag as the US. Thanks for the heads up, I haven't really looked into the traits, relics or psychic powers for the death guard yet. Only really decided to get them earlier today.

2 Bloat drones in a thousand points game is already pretty tough in a casual evironment. I use 2 in 2000points and they don't die...
I'd say the DG list is fine and pretty strong.

More plasma guns - you can take 3 in a 5-man squad.

Both look decent for casual 1000pt.

Have fun!
