I have lots of bits from the Ork Boy, Stormboy, Burna and Nob boxes, with a smattering of Kan and vehicle bits. I was pitting together some more boyz yesterday and I got to gluing as many Stikkbombs as I reasonably could to this Ork Boy and if I remember I got two stikkbombs in his mouth, I used the 3 stikkbomb pack on his back, with a slugga/stikkbomb on one side of the pack, a choppa/stikkbomb on the other, two stikkbombs in one hand and a single stikkbomb in the other. Which makes like ten or eleven stikkbombs. I got to thinking he might make a good counts-as Kommando, however he does still look like an ork boy with lots of stikkbombs. If I wanted to run a counts-as Kommando squad from misc plastic Ork kits, instead of the godawful expensive finecast sprue, then what else should be auto include to help sell the Kommando theme?

Edit, mainly from the bits in plastic ork kits, I am not against greenstuffing action headbands on them, but I am looking for more 'glue this on too' ideas

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

My ork Kommandos have berets green-stuffed (really easy but effective) on their heads and a few have rope (twine) wound over their shoulders and opposite sides. As far as bits go a couple have knives clenched in their teeth and extra pouches and stikk bombz work wonders. I painted blackout on their faces and added some foliage for camouflage to a few even though their berets are orange.

I made my Kommandos from Boyz using extra bitz (knives, choppas, pistols and other gubbinz) and then I made some Purple capes for them out of Green stuff, finally i painted their clothing brown and purple, because as we all know, Purple is da Stelfy color.

Pretty much any effort to make them look Ork-style-camouflaged would work. Camo-stripes in orange and purple? Works for me!

Or, less Orky, traditional camouflage patterns or face paint would work. Heck, different basing to look more jungly or urban could potentially work.

Pretty much any kind of effort to make them look more commando-y then regular boys would work. Orks are the free-pass faction. Someone has looted Nids in place of vehicles with Ork bits literally bolted onto the Nids, and nobody bats an eye.

Go wild.

OK. Three things:

Ork Kommando fluff.

Ork Kommando rules.

Ork Kommando lateral.

Fluff-wise, they are Blood Axe troops (I know), more heterogeneously accoutred, less 'savage' in appearance. Mainly a paint job as mentioned.

Rules wise, have the all important two special weapons (rokkit/burna/big shoota) and the Boss with big choppa/PK.

Laterally, you can go hog wild:

Anything.... I would take even normal boyz over that finecast mess. The nob is the only cool thing in that set but not worth the price at all.

I own him, mine came with the mould on the sword arm strangely overlapping, so his arm looks funny and I eventually cut one of the knives off trying to fix it. I am determined to give him two awesomer looking blades if I ever get good at green stuff

I have old 2nd edition Kommandos, and the bigger Metals from 5th edition.

But as far as Id say, any Ork painted with (im)proper Camoflage can be counted as a Kommando. I'd try to avoid Chain weapons, and bonus for carrying knives underhand.

One guy I knew made a squad with all cigars. So that's a requirement to me for now on.

guess having the right equipment then being "at a glance" different from the rest of the boyz, the beret idea is a good one, had wondered on that myself (though buying heads), painting purple as the "purple 'eds". can also get different resin torsos with ammo belts or just naked torsos which could work nicely.

This is where I am at for 3 counts-as Kommandos. I got Stikkbomb git, Gigantic right arm git, and carries five clips of ammo and a backup Grot Blasta git.

I should name these gitz.

Do they look like more then just gray Ork Boyz to you?

I make my Kommandos from the Boys box using the extra heavy weapons backpacks along with ample stikkbombs and similar. I try to stick to the knife-like choppas and avoid axes and/or chainsaw varieties.

Since Kommandos and orks believe purple is the sneakiest of the colors, just paint purple hand prints on their face or camo lines of purples on their arms and stuff.

I have almost never seen anyone do it, but purple is the way to go. Make them orks sneaky and they will be kommandos.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.
