So i decided to try V2 of AoS, my Core Book and 2018 Generals handbook came in, and i have read all the rules stuff twice now. It keeps mentioning battlelines and Warscrolls, and Battalions, what page is the actual list on? Do I need to get the Order book as well? SOmeone said it was out of date? Where are all the dang warscrolls and army special rules and what not, bascially eveyrthing you would find in a codex.

The Handbook has point values and allies, but doesn't give specifics on unit details. The organization of all these books is horrible. Everything is spread out, not in sync, their is no table of contents.

What do I need to get the actual equivleent of a 40k Codex? Are the warscrolls only online?

All warscrolls are free. HOWEVER... the warscrolls themselves do not have the matched play rules on them... that being the points and how you buy them.

Points are all in the GHB as are how you buy them.

Battalions are typically in the army book for that particular force.

So you have core rulebook, which for many they don't bother even getting. The GHB which has the updated points. And then the army book itself which has the allegiance abilities and artifacts and battalions.

If you aren't playing with an army that has a book then the GHB has allegiance abilities and what not as well.

No the army book is not the Order book. The grand alliance books are very out of date now.

No. By "army book", auticus is referring to things like "Battletome: Stormcast Eternals" and "Battletome: Blades of Khorne". Do you know what army you plan to play? We could link you to the proper book if we know that. If you're wanting to play mixed Order units, their allegiance abilities are listed in the Core Rules book.

I want old WHFP equivalents of Dwarfs and Empire.

So Dispossessed, Dwarfs, Ironwald Arsenal, Fyreslayers?

Empire, Free People, College Arcane, Devoted of Sigmar

(the GHB I assume has the specific dispossessed or free peoples allegiance abilities and artifacts and the core I believe has the general order abilities and artifacts)

The warscrolls for the entire line are available for free on their website. Find the units you want to use and download the warscroll.

You can also get the Order book for the warscrolls as it has every warscroll in the order allegiance (at the time it was published, there have been new things added since then but not for what you are after) but its not necessary.

The fyreslayers is a book but not up to date, as it does not have allegiance abilities nor does it have artifacts or special abilities... just warscrolls and fluff.

This is crazy. How the hell could it be this disorganized.

I have the CRB and the GH18. It has points, and it has Order abilities, but for Free People they don't have the explanation of battalions. There really isnt' a force org either, relics, traits etc.. are explained. I did find SOME of the Warscrolls online, but others arn't available, i guess because they have a book.

I need like 4-5 books, have to reference online stuff, pdfs, etc... I considered myself a fairly season player, 40k and old WHFB, but this is just crazy.
40k is so much better, maybe they are the A Team, and AoS is the leftovers. 40k has the Codex and the battle primer, and done. Sure you need FAQ/Errata but AoS has that too and I'm not even factoring those in.

There isn't really a force org in AOS. Matched play talks about restrictions with how many leaders you can have, how many battleline you have to have, etc. Thats about it.

Your best bet is if AoS App (for whatever smart phone device you use). You can find the relevant rules (for units and things like warscroll battalions) there easily. Basically if you pair that with GHB for factions like - Free People, Ironweld, Dispossesed, Collegiate Arcane then you'll have everything you need. The only information not readily available there are battalions from Battle Tomes (so from Fyresalyers, Stormcast Eternals, etc). They are there but you'll have to pay to access them. But given what you're looking for I'd download the app - that will get you the most concise and readily available set of rules for the models you have. I think you'll find this the easiest way to get access to all the rules you need (minus points which you'll find in GHB 2018) for your collection - far easier than trying to track down the various sources for the battalions and the like.
