Yeah it’s a fixed platform, look at the picture. As far as why it’s in the fast attack slot, unsure.

Aren't they airdropped in or something? That might explain it

Possibly as some sort of meta-intent. Armies likely to be looking to use static emplaced guns probably aren't using FA slots much, and this gives them something to do with those since they're not really HS big guns and aren't really Elite either, and they fill some of the flank covering role of some FA choices. That would be my thinking if I had to speculate.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

No, that would be you not understanding the rules/fluff and trying to continue a silly vendetta. Tarantula sentry guns were fast attack because they've traditionally had various scout/deep strike/infiltrate rules that allow you to drop them in advance of the rest of your army. It's a one-shot special move, but thematically it still fits with fast attack. In 8th they lose this rule, but the IG version is now heavy support.

I don't know if you have access to there old entry in IA but they are fast in the sense that Marines don't have the numbers to do garrison duty or guard ammo dumps or other vital but not currently under attack areas. Assuming they can't rope in IG to help them out, they deploy/ drop off automated defense systems to watch their backs

Yes. Used to be that they had deep strike implicitly because if you held immobile models in reserve then they would deploy by deep strike. Looks like FW forgot that isn't a thing any more.

Was wondering about that myself.
Also, can you mix FW and nonFW units in the same detachment? I have 2 OOP Tarantulas I'd like to use.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

Yes. FW units are normal options like any other, just like the choice between a scout squad or a tactical squad.

They deploy by drop in the fluff. Why not so in the rules? Eh, different editions.

It’s almost like there are immobile buildings/turrets in 40k. Nevermind that the unaligned immobile fortifications are a thing.
Also nevermind that Tarantula turrets gain the airdrop ability if they’re Elysian turrets.
Also, is it possible that a t5, 3-5w model in which you’re paying only mostly for the guns, instead of also the stat line, isn’t a good deal or anything.

I know the history. They don't have such rules anymore. That IG version is heavy support makes it even more obvious that the marine ones remaining as fast attack is a rule writing failure.

You think GW would do that? Just release flawed rules without fixing them?

If you think that crunch should determine which role a datasheet gets why aren't you proposing that these should be fortifications?
Also, Sentry Guns were HS in IA1 and IA1 2nd edition so that is not a change for 8th - they've been HS for as long as the IA books have been around in their current form and marine tarantulas have been FA for the same time.
