Can a unit scale a vertical wall towards the top of a building if the height of the wall is more than the allowed move (i.e. finish the movement phase part way up)?

To take this question even further, what about a vehicle? Can a (non-fly) vehicle move up the side of a building (even within its allowed move)?

1) From a strict RaW view, no, they cannot. You could claim WMS but that's a stretch.

2) From a strict RaW view, yes, they can.

You are, of course, able to make up whatever house rules you want, like saying climbing a building only takes 3" of movement, or that no, your Land Raider cannot drive up a vertical 6" wall.

1) Seems reasonable. Similarly if a Terminator teleports on to the roof of a high building he's stuck there too?

2) Do most people house rule this? What about at tournaments? Do Rhinos drive up vertical walls onto the roof (doesn't seem reasonable).

1) Correct.

2) No idea, I don't do house rules.

1) Its not a stretch. The rules clearly allows it. However, you need your opponents permission to use WMS. If he denies permission, you cant do it.

From stepping into a new edition :

Q: What happens when an Infantry model cannot
completely end its move on a floor of ruins when
attempting to scale the walls?
A: If an Infantry model is unable to complete a move
to a stable position, use the Wobbly Model Syndrome
guidelines in the core rules to identify with your
opponent where your model’s actual location is.

2) Can you really move your vehicle up a wall of a ruin ?

From the BRB update 1.2 :

Page 248 – Ruins
Change the first paragraph of rules text to read:
‘Unless they can Fly, Vehicles, Monsters, Cavalry
and Bikers can only be set up or end their move on the
ground floor of ruins.’

Does a vehicle end its movement on the ground floor, if it moves up the wall of a ruin but part is still on the ground floor ? Thats debatable. I say no. You cant move up a wall and end your movement on the ground floor, thats contradiction.

Fair point, you can use WMS no problem due to the FAQ.

However, we're not talking about ruins, we're talking about "buildings" or rather terrain pieces that are just solid cubes. They aren't ruins. Of course you could declare them pre-game to be ruins to avoid the situation.

There is no such thing as a building in the rules. I remember someone once said you can only do what the rules tell you to do. So that "building" must be something that has rules, like a ruin.

Suits me - so no house rules required to have units only able to scale buildings (ruins) less high than their allowable move and to keep vehicles on the ground

Well, there are buildings, they are like transports though.

And that is why I said "buildings" in quotes. There aren't rules for "hills" either but people use hills just fine. If you don't declare the terrain piece as a ruin, you can't use the rules for ruins.

True, there are buildings in the game. Sorry, my fault.
