Seriously, how is dakkadakka not on fire right now with the newest boxed game coming out?!
I am so down for Adeptus Titanicus it's not even funny. 6" Titans, lil bitty Knights... That macrocannon? Damn. I might just have to find someone to split the big box with, or maybe I'll just keep it all!!!!
Thoughts? Opinions? How many Titans are you planning on building?

Don't know about the others, but it's too rich for my blood! £175 as a starting point for a new game is just crazy imo. Especially when I've just bought some stuff for Kill Team.

I like it, but I'd be way more hyped for an Epic 40k with troop bases and vehicles as well as the titans. That said, I'm still eager to hear about how Titanicus plays.

The rules set is £35 - you can then buy whatever titans you want (or proxy them). The Grand Master Edition is a bundle of everything (and you don't need it to start playing).

It's expensive even for GW standards and Kill Team just dropped. I have no interest right now for another side game especially one that uses models that are useless outside of the box game.

Yes but apart from maybe terrain you pretty much will end up having all there anyway so you basically will pay more by not getting big box...And if you aren't big on scratch building terrain(which for many will end up looking worse for not that much cheaper) you need that terrain as well. I hope so. Won't spend any pounds for titan vs titan game. No interest for that. For big robot vs robot games battletech fills my needs. Now full epic where I could play imperium vs orks huge battles...I would be sooooo into that. Though FW changing scale would result in smaller games due to price/board size issues but still would be soooo awesome.

A very expensive, limited version of MechWarrior, with only x2 types of kit - one for three (admittedly adorable) knights and one that you'll have to sell a kidney to afford.
I imagine it plays a bit like chess, if the only models you had were identical knights and a queen on both sides.
Of course I expect they will flesh this out at some point in the future as having two identical opponents facing off is clearly daft. For now though, where's my Ork codex?

I thought they would have moved this by now! Lol. It was a sort of joke to post this here, sorry if I've made someone's day worse. If I was the guy who had to click stuff to moderate us hooligans I'd be raaaagin!
But seriously, the rules are only like $70 around here, and you get everything you need to play and then some. It's almost still worth it to split the rules box with someone! And the game itself uses the bases of the model for arc and line of sight. I mean I've never played the old one but it seems like titans and knights are gonna be able to see one another, side effect of being taller than most buildings...
So you could scratch build your own stuff pretty easily, a six inch tall model isn't that hard to source parts for and in one unboxing I watched the guy had an old Titan model from Epic to compare and it was very nice the way the two models looked together! Scale was not an issue at all. I could even see using a SM Dreadnought as a base for such a scratch build.
Hats off to the first of us to build a Titan out of a dread! Automatically Appended Next Post: Also I would sell my body for Epic 40k reissue. Not that GW should take that statement as a suggestion for an acceptable price point...

You COULD do that. But realistically you still need a Titan, and it won't be much fun to play with just that so add in some Knights too. Plus you'll need a friend to play with who'll need all that stuff too.
In 40k right now, you can get in for £47.50 each. A decent sized starting force and all the rules you need to play.
In Titanicus that shoots up to £87.50, and that makes a huge difference to who can get into the game. Sure, you get terrain too but that is of limited value to a new player. I can use some cereal boxes or whatever for starting terrain, but I still want proper models. Not to mention that even though the Warlord is a very big model, you're still only playing with 4 models which again feels pretty poor compared to Dark Imperium.
It's not about whether the amount of stuff in the box adds up to a reasonable deal in the abstract or not. It's about the price players will realistically have to pay to start playing games.

I think everyone pretty much is assuming this. I hope they sell enough to expand, I really do. I just hope when they do a launch of infantry and tanks it comes in a two player starter closer to the £95 mark!
For what it's worth, it seems they've released the first wave of stuff in fairly limited quantities, so it hopefully doesn't need everyone to be buying it to be considered a success.

This is what i'm doing, rules box, box of knights, then a warlord in a couple weeks. Eventually i'll have 1 warlord, 1 reaver, 2 warhounds and 3-6 knights.

I think Titanicus will be Dead on Arrival. It's too expensive with a cult following at best, and the way they're releasing it is pretty clear they don't expect much out of it.
Titanicus preorders are up and the Warhammer Community site still has the big Kill Team banner up. This is GW satisfying the fanboys and then handing it off to ForgeWorld for a sprinkling of support over the next few years.

Well it's sold out in several countries already. And I don't know what you're talking about. I went on the GW united states site and pretty much saw a load of AT stuff, including win a titan etc. As for the community site, well GW is riding the kill team wave of buyers as long as they can. Also 110 bucks for a warlord vs 140 bucks for an imperial knight. I know which i'm going to pick, the knight looks like a childs toy in comparison.

GW's stand alone games are best gotten after they've been in the wild and people have had a chance to play them. Maybe after it goes through a single round of FAQ and Errata.
Then there's the price. Yes, there's other stuff in the box, but GW has set the norm when it comes to starters with both Dark Imperium and Soul Wars being the price they are.
Also, there's just not enough stuff in the game. Yes, more will be released (Reaver already confirmed, right?) but two unit types to launch is a bit on the samey side of things.
As well, Forge Worlds rules side of things hasn't been stellar over the last year or so. Necromunda has some pretty glaring issues and the way both it and Bloodbowl are drip fed out is pretty awful compared to how it used to be sold (main rules + one expansion and then the LRB for Bloodbowl, one big rulebook for Necromunda).
|
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

Kill Team just came out. It's offering a decent variety of new terrain, plus old terrain bundled at more reasonable prices, and allows you to use small amounts of miniatures from all sorts of armies.
GW screwed up the timing on this one.

Launching Titanicus at the same time as Kill Team was dumb, IMO. But the bigger issue is that it is a standalone game, with bespoke rules and models...and any game is only good if you have others to play with (I don’t have an X-wing fleet for precisely that reason). Unless your local community also buys in than all you have is a bunch of cool models on your shelves.
There’s also another problem with Titanicus that didn’t exist during Epic: I can (and do) already play my Imperial knights in 40k. So I don’t need a separate game to scratch that itch. It doesn’t offer as different an experience from normal 40K nowadays. Personally I think waiting a little longer and re-releasing Battlefleet Gothic to coincide with the video game would have been a much better decision, and given players a game that’s different than Knights vs. Titans but smaller.

so don't take the 350 dollar plunge (it's closer to 400 with tax, at least here) 200 bucks will get you the warlord collection. which isn't bad considering you're buying a hard cover rule book and a warlord titan. the GME is, IK agree pricy as heck. but it's not like they've not offered lower cost alternatives. as it is, you could buy just the rules book and play with proxies until you get another pay cheque, (an Imperial Knight'd work just fine for a warlord)

The thing though is that a warlord titan lasts throughout the game, in 40k a single knight can get wiped off the board easier. This game doesn't really play like 40k in that units just get wiped in one turn or some kind of alpha strike. You get to see the titans get worn down, and the effects of the battle take its toll on them.

The smartest way would be to buy an extra rules package ($70), and split a big box with a friend. For $210 each you're getting a warlord, 3 knights, some terrain and the rules package.
