If this is the start of a new Epic, I think it honestly would've made more sense to start with infantry and tanks. Then you could have sanely priced two-player starter sets.

The thing is they have already stated it isn't intended to be the start of epic. They simply left the door open rules wise so if way down the line they wanted to add something like land raider squads, or some marines they could technically do it. But for the foreseeable future it's looking like they plan on keeping the game centered around titans since the game was designed around them. I'd expect maybe cerastus knights, new warlord variants, maybe a porphyrion.
I think with the battlefield assets system they have, it would be cool to see them add something like a anti armor space marine squad added as an asset. Or a land raider squad/imperial tanks. This would be a way to implement some form of small stuff without bogging the game down with micromanaging all these tiny units. The game already has a lot of thinking and managing systems just with the titans alone.
So unlike the previous iterations of this game, I think this one should stay completely centered around titans. I'd rather see them do eldar/ork titans than start adding masses of little squishy units that can barely hurt titans but will just slow the game down.

8mm actually. Automatically Appended Next Post: BrianDavion wrote: phallusmaximus wrote:It looks kinda cool, but I'm not willing to take the plunge for $350. If the game is supported down the road I might try it, but right now I think I'll pass.
so don't take the 350 dollar plunge (it's closer to 400 with tax, at least here) 200 bucks will get you the warlord collection. which isn't bad considering you're buying a hard cover rule book and a warlord titan. the GME is, IK agree pricy as heck. but it's not like they've not offered lower cost alternatives. as it is, you could buy just the rules book and play with proxies until you get another pay cheque, (an Imperial Knight'd work just fine for a warlord)
So that way you will in the long run end up paying even MORE as you miss on the free warlord you would end up anyway if you are playing it any seriously.
I'm sure GW loves that advise. Pay more for same!

except if he only wants ONE warlord, and doesn't want terrain... then yeah no reason to get it.

If you have just one warlord your games will be rather simple and boring in the long run. But sure. If you want to spend still tons of money to play tiny skirmishesh. That's like spending money for 2k army in 40k but actually playing more like 1k games.

The reason I'm not interested is because of how pathetic these battles look.
When I imagine titan battles, I imagine squads of warhounds flanking and hounding their opponents, reavers forming a devastating line of the initial shock assault, and warlords clunking their way to the battle, obliterating anything in their way.
What I don't imagine is a single warlord and a bunch of knights nipping at its heels. Maybe if Titanicus was what I mentioned before, I'd consider it, but what we have so far is so astonishingly pathetic in scale that I have no interest at all.

you realize reivers and warhounds are coming soonish and thats basicly what the game will be? the warlord and knights is "eneugh for a small game"

But that's why I have no interest in what's out there currently. I'm not going to spend upwards of $200+ when the game is in a state that I am not even remotely interested in. Once it gets to the scale I mentioned, I will absolutely take a second look, but right now it just feels like it's in a premature state.

fair eneugh and thats exctly what it is. I think the release of the HH novel "Titanfall" which is basicly claimed to be almost a "novel tie in" for the game, in december, is a good indicator of GW's deployment plan for AT. release the titans slowly over the fall, with the expectation that the game'll really kick off in early 2019 (proably why they've talked about the GME being reprinted then)

I can't recall a single GW release since I started playing which has new zealanders and auzzies saying "OMG! THis is a great price" mind you :( it must suck to live there.
There was a time when the AUD was close to parity with the USD that Australia didn't seem to be getting the same price hikes and for a few release waves it was almost bearable (not great, jus not terrible) and then the AUD slumped a bit and prices went back through the roof.
But yeah, my interest in AT has basically been "well that looks intere.... *heartattack from price*".
They coulda just released it in resin ages ago for the same price, lol.
But anyway, I'm torn as to whether I want it to do well. If it does well it'll validate GW's insane price, but if it does bad it'll probably mean no epic 40k down the line, but of a lose-lose situation.

I agree with you here. The Warlord model is cool sure, but on a huge board with just a handful of Knights it just doesn't feel... well, epic really! Just a bit underwhelming.
I really feel like you need the infantry and tanks to give a proper sense of scale.

It’s a good point, the GME kit costs $290 USD while you can get a Castellen+2 armigers (and the IK codex) for $285 or a Warhound with arms for $480 at the current conversion rate. Either one gets you the experience of a big, stompy robot blasting away at it’s enemies, which unlike Titanicus can also include hordes of puny infantry. Or if you really want them to fight other big robots for $50 more than the GME bundle you can just get 2 Castellens. However, unlike starting Titanicus you already have a guaranteed gaming community.

This game just doesn't interest me. Titans are cool and all, I'm just not interested in a game with a bunch of titans and knights running around without other support.

It is sort of sad that 40k can be more "epic" than Adeptus Titanicus.
The guaranteed gaming community thing is also pretty huge. Getting knights and doing big robots in 40k seems like its far, far more likely to be actually played than getting into AT.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I was interested a bit... until the price tag flipped me the bird and called me all sorts of nasty names.
I'd consider, maybe, If I thought it would float, $150 for the big set. It costs well over double that.
You could buy... I don't know.... 2 "real" knights, and a couple boxes of Centurions or something to play counts-as that you could then use in games of 40k. This set is just way outside of what I'd consider spending on a game like this.
