Hi, had a situation came up in my opponent's shooting phase. My opponent shot a pistol into a CC that the character wasn't engaged in. Is this allowed?

The pistol rules state they ignore enemy units within 1" of the target, so from a quick read it looks like they can. I was surprised though as I thought you could only do that if locked in CC yourself.

Is this the correct way to do things?

In a word, no. The only time you can fire a pistol at a unit that is within 1" of an enemy is if you yourself are also within 1" of an enemy, and then you have to shoot the closest target. Have a slow read instead of a quick read and digest ALL the limitations of the pistol rule.

Of course, it technically doesn't work anyway, so it's a moot point.
