Since Death Guard has 5 unique elite characters and Thousand Sons has just 1 (and it's a AoS port over birdman) I'm brewing up hopefully 4 characters for Thousand Sons to fill the gap. What do you guy think about this?
The idea is to combo him with a unit of warpflammer Rubrics that plop down from Webway Infiltration or Dark Matter Crystal and roast stuff since it's 10" range with the buff. I don't know how much should he cost though and not sure should he be able to have the power sword. What do you guy think about him?
---------------------------------------
After digging some more for example in codices and trow some test dices, I think this should be not too OP.
two warpflammers shooting do decent damage after deepstrike and it's not effect over watch. Do you think how much should he cost?

That is WAY too good. The ability to drop a whole squad of AP-2 Flamers in for a pittance of CP? That's crazy.

I think I might be okay with it, actually. If I'm not mistaken, warp flame weapons are mostly on rubric marines, and rubric marines are generally considered subpar for 1k sons. You'll do a ton of damage the turn you pop in, but you'll be doing so with an expensive unit, and you can guard against the worst of it with standard screening tactics.
|
ATTENTION. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Seems a bit designed to give you an advantage over a specific rule. No fluff reason for it, just to make a unit very deadly in certain circumstances.

But that can be said to any other unit as well, they were designed for game play and fluff was written for its existence.

Not always, especially historically and not always as blatantly. This way you are ensuring that they get that alpha strike from the convenient buff to flamers ranges. Maybe if it was random and had a chance of failure or some other downside like gets hot it wouldn’t be as blantant. I’m building a deathgurad army atm but haven’t played it yet. But I don’t think the death yard characters are as obvious in what they do. There are some nasty combos but require a bit of luck and/or skill to pull off. This is very point and click. Just my opinion.

My inspiration come form the old Thousand Sons cult of Pyrae (unfortunately, none of the new nine cults is associate with fire or elemental energy, otherwise I would name him that already).
For randomness, what if it's D3 range? There's still 1/3 change to fail it but also give more models a chance to shoot as well if it's 5+ and get 3" buff. Straight 2" buff may still exclude some models from the range (I don't think they can all be crammed into 1" space that they can shoot their warpflammer).

I would prefer to see him give those weapons +1 to wound or something, or perhaps inflicting mortal wounds on a roll of 6+ to wound, rather than your proposed rule here.

That sounds better but maybe think of ideas of all the extra elites you want to make and see if there is anyway to make them make it work or something. I know that deathguard wise I can have some fun with one character buffing another’s powerful Grenade and such like. I’m not that familiar with the thousand sons army but that sounds better as you have it here. Also with tzeentch things don’t be afraid to be a bit more outhtere too, he does some weird stuff. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ps, I’m no expert at game design by the way I was just chirping up, like to make my own stuff to for conversions I’ve done but mine are normally based on existing stuff and patterns so easy in comparison to what you are doing here.

Yep, that's a hard no for me. I read the whole thing, and all it said was "oh he's wants to deepstrike and hit with flamers". Not "what a cool and unique character, providing flavor..." etc. I know that Thousand Sons are questionable at best right now, but this is not how you fix them.

Make it a Strategem worth 2CP that gives an Exalted Sorcerer that aura. A whole separate Character is not something people are gonna take JUST for that aura.

Honestly? a ton of elite characters.... doesn't fit the 1k sons.
they have a tinsy number of real people due to the rubric. I'd be tempted if I had to pitch a elite slot character idea suggest some sort of human cultist type unit,

That's why I suggest it as a 2CP Stratagem instead.

Man, if you just want your rubrics with flamers be worth a damn in a friendly game, just go for it. But i'd limit it to one unit. Not all units within an aura. Otherwise it can be too skewey. And make it a unique model or something.
