Greetings All,

So a little bit about me, I last played 40K in 5th Edition since then I moved into 8th Edition WHFB and T9A. Unfortunately my opponents in these systems have more or less all left for oter gaming systems and real life commitments so I am looking at re-vamping a former army of mine that I have taken out of storage to grace the tables of the dark future once again.

So with no idea about rules or weapons in the new edition I thought I would write a list based off of what I have in the collection. I can just about fit all my models into 1000 Points with me only needing a couple of transports to be able to field this (once all is stripped and re painted of course)

987/1000 Points

3x Company Commander (1 is Warlord with Armour of Graf Toschenko)
2x Command Squad - Medi Pack, 3x Plasma Gun
Special Weapons Squad - 3x Snipe Rifle
3x Infantry Sqaud - Flamers
3x Infantry Squad - Lascannon
3x 1 Scout Sentinels
2x Heavy Weapon Squad - 3x Heavy Bolters
1x Heavy Weapon Squad - 3x Mortars
2x Taurox

I'm hoping that this is at least a decent starting point fr expanding my collecton

Guard Heavy Weapon Crewman

Houston

Welcome back to the game!

Sorry GW put your line OOP :/

You need to really nail those rules for CP and strategyms. In 1000 points you should probably be bringing a brigade atleast. Maybe even a brigade and battalion. Anyway, shoot for 15CP starting out in 1,000 points.

As far as guard goes this edition, and things to think about for the future, infantry, and Russ support is key.

Your command squads are a bit unnecessary. Better to distribute the plasma out to the infantry squads. Medic just aren’t really worth the cost. Keep ththe model and just put it in an infantry squad.

Las cannons are king as far as heavy weapons for infantry squads. Ideally you would have one for each.

As far as your heavy weapon squads, it is good you have mortars. A good goal would be to have 3 sets of 3. 99 points to fill out a heavy support requirement is crazy. Keep the bolters Incase your local meta has more horde armies.

Flamers are useful, it is just unfortunate your regimental organization dose not take the best advantage of it. Eventually you will want to completely replace those with plasma.

Scout sentinels are king for fast attack. 150 points or so to fill out a fast attack option is wonderful. Keep those.

Taroxes are interesting. Good cost, but not worth much more than a taxi ride to an objective marker. Use them for now. Because of how guard play now, you will be doing much more sitting back and shooting.

Get Leman Russ battletanks. Don’t fool with any of the other patterns beyond battle cannon, or punisher. Maybe plasma if you ever include a Cadian tank detachment (I highly suggest you do to get Pask). Also look into Leman Russ annhilators. Easy kitbash for a tank that has 5 las
Cannon shots.

It is good you have enough company commanders, you will need to be running three for a brigade. Your warlord trait should probably be something immediately beneficial to the group around your warlord, so old grudges, or grand strategist are probably good. Your heirloom should most likely be something else, like kurovs Aquila. Believe me, those guys should almost never be in combat. They need to be in the rear, generating CP and giving 2(or 3) orders a turn.

You will need to get use to gunline formations. That is really key for the army now, and prioritizing targets. Concentrate fire on targets is always good advice. Also if you are new, check it BattleScribe, super helpful.

Also, once you are more use to the game, start looking at adding other detachments like other imperial guard regiments, or even other imperial armies like space marines or something.

I've fought in this endless hateful war for eight months now, night and day. In that time I've aged a decade. My hair has turned grey, nearly all my squad have died, and I doubt I'll ever smile again. I've fought next to heroes and strangled men in their sleep. But I'm still alive and by the Emperor I plan to stay that way. - Acting-Captain Haines,47th Armageddon Steel Legion

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. I am used to OOP armies I also played Chaos Dwarves. Something about metal miniatures with big hats... I have got used to eBay prices and conversions over the past 10 or so years.

The above list was in a Brigade detachment, sorry probably should have said. So it looks like I need to do some recasting work to get my heavy weapons and special weapons teams up to scratch, it was hard enough to get 3 mortars never mind another 6!

The Taurox were for the mid range auto cannons not used to writing lists without these also used for the cmnd squads.

I have Demolisher's and Punishers on my LRBT wishlist. 30" Demolisher cannon sounds fun.

I want to have a pure vostroyan army (for the looks) so aiming eventually for an infantry brigade as above with maybe an armoured spearhead or two to round it up

I would not recomend you Demolisher Leman russ, since the demolisher cannon itself is fairly terrible for the massive pricetag it has, the normal battlecanon does better in all regards, even for tank hunting for less pts.
On the other hand, punishers are seriously laying down the hurt atm, turns out grinding advance plus a 20 shot's base turret weapon system are seriously usefull, if you want to drown something in lead that is.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Greetings all, so I have signed myself up to a starter league that starts in October. I have done this so that i can concentrate on painting and fielding this army as it will require stripping and repainting. It was originally purchased and painted when they were first released.

So 500 Point Infantry List, with no idea what I will be facing...

Vostroyan Infantry Battalion

Company Commander - Kurov's Aquila, Power Sword (spare pts)
Company Commander - Warlord, Powr Maul (spare pts) Master of Command

Infantry Squad - Lascannon, Plasma Gun
Infantry Squad - Lascannon, Plasma Gun
Infantry Squad - Heavy Bolter, Flamer
Infantry Squad - Heavy Bolter, Flamer

Command squad - 4x Sniper Rifles

Scout Sentinel - Multi Laser
Scout Sentinel - Multi Laser

Heavy Weapons Team - 3x Mortar
Heavy Weapons Team - 3x Mortar

I have a feeling that there will a lot of infantry at this points level so I have geared towards that with a couple of options in the Infantry Squads to target armour if required.

Not sure on the Sniper Command squad but I have the models and some aren't too badly painted, plus I might be able to peg a character or two with them, or at least make my opponent want to protect them more.
