Greetings,
I've been on hiatus for quite awhile now so I've missed the impact of the Beta rules, particularly Battle brothers. I now have two questions:
Beta rules
Does the community at large consider the beta rules optional? From the way they were introduced it seems GW intended these to be played and then they will tweak/fully implement/remove them. Whats the general consensus here?
Battle bros
From what I gather this rule says no eldar + dark eldar or IK + tau in matched play.. just for random examples.
However a player could still combine marine factions or csm + same mark of daemon? Is this right? Wrong? partially correct? Please elaborate with some examples.
Thanks.

.. "The community" is a difficult thing to get an answer from on a webforum representing many communities , but basically yes, I believe most people worldwide the beta rules as a default.
Battle bros.. so.. your Army needs one faction keyword to tie it together, so typically Imperium Chaos Aeldari whatever.
Each detachment in your army also Needs one keyword tie it together.. BUT this cannot be chaos, Imperium Aeldari.
But could be for example heretic Astartes.
There's still a lot of flexibility

You can take Eldar and Dark Eldar together in the same army, but not the same detachment.
You've never been able to take Imperial Knights and T'au together in matched play; the Battle Brothers rule hasn't changed that.

Ya tau + IK was a bad example, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that so just forget that one.
Ok I think I get the distinction.. so the wording:
"All of the units in each Detachment in your Battle-forged army must have at least one Faction keyword in common"
Refers to individual detachments, not all the units in the army.. correct?
And therefore the only thing that battle bros really limits is players who were for example taking eldar units within a dark eldar detachment and calling it battle forged.
Is that all correct?
Thanks again.

Correct.
You can have, for example, a Dark Eldar detachment and an CW Eldar detachment in the same Aeldrari Battle-forged army. You cannot have a single detachment of Mixed CW Eldar and Dark Eldar.
You can have a SPESS MAHRINES detachment and an ASTRA COPYWRITUM detachment in the same IMPERIAL army, but you can't mix Tactical Squads in with Hellhounds in the same detachment.

Dammit now I can't find WHY a BF army couldn't consist of IK and tau.. ?

It can, in Open or Narrative Play.
Matched Play adds the additional stipulation that all models in the Army must share a Keyword. You'll find that rule on page 214.

Good god of course. I knew every rule in 7th by heart yet somehow these bespoke rules evade me!
Thank you again.
