Ahoy Dakka Dakka!

I 'ave a question for you lot. I have a custom paint job and decals for my new Imperial Knight, but I would like to use the rules for one of the named households. Is there a rule in any major tournaments (ITC mainly) that says I must paint a knight in a certain household's colors to get their rules? Do I have to make my knight a freeblade? Thanks

Nope. Technically no rule prevents you using card placeholders either.

GW tried(not sure have they dropped it) rule that if you have say marines painted as ultramarines then they HAVE to use ultramarine rule but even that didn't deal with custom paint job.

Most "valhallans" ATM are probably cadian models as well

You have to ask the tournaments for their house rules, we can't answer you here.

Going by the games rules, there is no requirement for paintjob to match rules, nor even any requirement for the model to match the rules.

Even so, the IK codex allows you to pick a household tradition even if you pick a different house as the Keyword. Page 106

If you have a custom heraldry/household, the codex tells you to simply use the household rules that best suit your playstyle, if Im not compleatly mistaken.
It would be strange if a tournament disregarded that.

Some tournaments are starting to put rules in place that if you have an army painted a specific way, such as Knights painted as House Terryn, you have to play those rules. If you have them painted as a faction that does not have rules, you can play them however you like. But those aren't very wide spread, as of yet.

Just check with the TO's of the events you'll be attending.

I really hope this stuff doesn't become widespread as its totally anti inclusive, and only serves to widen the gap between those spending significant money on getting new armies painted for each new codex/FAQ etc over those just trying to have fun with their army while meeting new people.

There's taking the mic with massive wave of mono colour rhats actually 3 subfaction of the same models. But realy could most people tell the cannon subfactions appart?

Also where does it end, your not using vostian firstborn miniatures, their Cadian so you have to play Cadian rules only. Those Alpha legion models are a pre heresy colour you need to go use the loyalist codex?
It's GW trying to force a narative play mentality into a competitive setting. Not having 3 subfactions painted the same Yes 100% agree forcing people to play sub par factions becuase of paint colours, is too far.

This was already discussed in-depth HERE about three months ago. No need to repeat it again.

Well that rule only restricts if you paint in specific colours. If you want codex hop paint custom paint job and be done.

Also rule specifically deals with paint job, not models.
