Priests in a drill can be quite effective, but 5 priests is pretty bad even at 1k games let alone 2k. It’s not enough to get the most out of them.
Better to fill the drill with Hoplites for 20 points more and shoot then try to charge, or 10 Fulgurites and plop the drill near to some crap or injured units they can charge and finish off for the boost to a 3++.
10 fulgurites (or 12 if you feel like buying another box for two more bodies) with 3++ and 5+++ doing mortal wounds on charges and 20 (or 24) WS3+, ST5,
AP-2, D3dmg (D3 mortal wounds on a wound roll of 6) are some of the best bodies Ad Mech can put on the ground up in their enemy’s face and they’ll either draw fire or will start wrecking any infantry (especially terminators and the like) they’re near to - which with smart drill placement should be most of the enemies’.
Similarly once they get that 3++ boost they can handily camp objectives and be tough to remove with or without Acquisition At Any Cost giving them a 2++ and 30 (or 36) attacks. There’s also the strategem to have them fight twice but at 3CP it’s a little too situational and costly to be worth the investment most of the time I think.
Still, a very solid 160 points once your Heavy Support slots are full of 2x Onagers and a bunch of Kastelans, and you’ll need stuff that actually moves down the field or else your army falls apart once anyone gets into charge distance. Works especially well if you aren’t wanting to break the bank buying a ton of Dragoons.
