So here is the fruits of my labour, just interested if it would survive more than 3 turns and to gather information if this is considered cheap or un-fun to play against - I'm all for crazy ideas, but not at the expense of my opponent having a nice game too!

It'd certainly be fun to play against, but the moment anyone brings some heavier armour you'd be steamrolled pretty quickly I'd imagine. Would Lascannons or Rockets fit into this army in terms of fluff?

In the source novels the South Essex is an elite light infantry force in the Brittish army of the Napoleonic Wars, usually operating as part of Wellington's army. As such, artillery and cavalry would definitely be appropriate.

In other words, put some Basilisks on that board.

If your group is using the rule of 3 then you would have to drop a command squad and heavy mortar team as well as company commander

THIS is the guard list that I would love to make. Massive amounts of infantry making their final stand against an incoming hoard of orks or renegade marines!
