I am trying to work out which blue paint was included in the Assault on Black Reach paint set. I want to buy some of the old Ultramarines blue to touch up chips on an old model, and I may have an opportunity to buy a new sealed Assault on Black Reach paint set, which dates from the old paint range.

However, I can't find the names of the paints in the set. I did however find an official Ultramarines painting guide from the time, which used Mordian Blue instead of Ultramarines Blue, so I'm not sure which one was in the Assault on Black Reach set.

Does anyone know?

Closest now is macragg blue

Gw changed the ultramarines blue to a more purpley tone in the nineties

Erm, no they didn't.

I've literally got one of my first models sitting to the left of me painted as an UM using that paint from 1997ish. He is blue. There is no purple tone to it at all.

We're slowly getting around to adding more to our Vintage Line, while it might be a little late for you by the time we get to it we should have Mordian Blue in our range.

We have however recreated the old Ultramarines Blue colour from that period, it's not on sale yet but will be soon!

Many thanks for the replies - that's been very helpful.

By "old model", I meant one painted around 5-6 years ago using paints bought just before the change to the latest Citadel range.

It was definitely painted with Ultramarines Blue, so good to know it will be on sale soon!

The question about Mordian Blue was just to make sure I didn't buy the wrong blue from the Assault on Black Reach set, and now I know not to get it.
