Alright so I’m pretty new to tyranids and would like to try and use some of their big bugs. I don’t mind losing as long as it can be a fun list!

BATTALION 1

Tyrant-wings, rending claws, HVC
Neurothrope

20 genestealers
20 genestealers
30 hormagaunts

Haruspex

Carnifex-adrenal glands, enhanced senses, HVC, scything talons, spore cyst.
Carnifex-same as above.

BATTALION 2

Broodlord
Neurothrope

30 hormagaunts
3 rippers
3 rippers

So I’m at 1823 with the above list. Some options I looked into are: a harpy to fly up blast things with its double HVC and help tie stuff up until the rest of the army moves up, or a toxicrene as it’s another big monstrous creature or drop 3 horms and add 4 hive guard.

I will also say i am trying to run my nids more melee oriented because I play guard as it is and I don’t want another shorty army. So I know shorty nids would probably be better but I guess this is more of a fun list.

But the idea is to have a genestealer unit fly up and alpha strike something with the kraken strat while everything else runs up as fast as it can. Then hopefully turn 2 use the second genestealer unit to do the same!

Well you seem to have some good ideas. I would likely trade out the Broodlord for a Neuro, and spend else where.
I would build around some CC Carnifexen (3) and a unit of Hive guard for your anti vehicle etc. A third big bug and you have the possibility of running a Brigade. Even Screamerkillers are scarey as a Kraken fleet.

So maybe a framework of: Brigade
WINGED Tyrant, MRC, cannon
Neuro
Neuro

Stealers, x20
Stealers, x15
Hormagaunts, x30

Hive guard, x6
Screamerkillers, x3
Big Bug of choice

Spores,spores,spores

And see where you wish to spend your remaining points.

Good luck! And good hunting!

I never thought about running the carnifexs as pure melee. But that certainly would be scary to run into an opponent!

I will see if I can build up a brigade and post it in here if I can.

I will have to check the other slots and see what else to fill out the brigade with!

Thanks for the comment!

A fex build I like that is really versitile is -
4x dev and monsters acid maw with sporecysts and bone mace.

This gives you 24 bs4 str 6 shots and 4 attacks with ap -5 str 7 d3 damage - plus the bone mace. Very good as Kraken.

Also another good melle fexen is the thornback.
It's deathspitters ignore cover against infantry and when they charge infantry they get d3 mortals instead of 1. They are kinda cool. I think the above suggestion is better though.

That’s pretty nasty for the carnifexs!

So I played around with the list to get a brigade and this is what I’ve got!

BRIGADE: kraken!

Neurothrope

Any suggestions or possible changes?

Looks cool, good luck, and good hunting. But do try close combat frozen...with Kraken they are fearsome

This is a solid list.

FHT are amazing and I usually bring no less than 2 of them. However - swarm lord might benefit this list more than a FHT. He insures you get a GS unit in turn 1. Then he can also insure your haruspex gets in turn 2. Also - If you have the option - I think Toxicrine>Haruspex.

Ahh - these are close combat fexen though . The only thing they lose out on is reroll 1's and d3 damage isntead of flat 3. It's a hybrid - but more often than not it's melle is sufficent for the task.

Hey I would say that is a solid list but if you’re going to go CC heavy then you should go all in

Swap the hive guard for some cheap lictors to fill the slots because let’s face it everyone takes hive guard and it’s just boring now. If you do if that you’d have a load of points to drop on anything else you want. Tyrannocyte for that haruspex?
Bunch the carnifexes into one slot and some other HS?

Oh, acid maws are a good mod, but it is a compromise design. Screamers have plasma though, so they have a tiny dakka ability.
I just want folks to know that with Kraken they are worth consideration. .

A" hand built" fex with say Tusks, and Spores might be even better!

I use a similar fex loadout but with Enhanced Senses, though I have a shootier list and if I was running more CC focus id swap to a maw.
24 s6 shots that can run&gun are too good to turn down.
Bone Mace being 2 pt for a 25% increase to attacks is an autoinclude on every fex, especially since it’s a better attack then your regular

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

I will have to look into lictors. I haven’t really gotten a chance to check them out yet. But they sure would mix the list up.

I do certainly think the list will form around the 3 carnifexs and haruspex.

I think 2 genestealer units and the large horm unit will be the foundation for the list. As stealers sprinting accross the board will scare many people lol.
