On moon miranda.

In most instances, I would imagine stealing models would make it hard to get games in, as showing up with Bob's custom-chapter painted Chapter Master would get noticed pretty quick.

Theft, at least in my experience, is pretty much always something left in a car and an entire army gets stolen wholesale, usually by someone not really knowing what it is and selling it on craigslist or ebay.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

First time I went to the LVO, everyone just left their models in the tournament area for breaks and lunch and the like. I did too, as it was honestly the only practical option, but I didn't feel great about it.

Nothing got stolen, though!

When I was a young kid (9 or 10) I would play some star wars miniatures game at my FLGS. I remember leaving to get a snack with my friends to come back and see that my main piece, Boba Fett along with his stat card, were missing. I remember crying over it and the guy running the store at the time went on a crusade to find that missing model and card. Alas it was not to be. However the happy ending is that an older player did give me one of his Boba Fetts due to him having a duplicate and being a really nice guy.

To this day I remember both those dudes and how much their generosity and dedication to helping a young kind went. Hopefully I can return the favor to help someone in the same way an keep the cycle of positive karma going.

Skip some 12 or 13 years in the future and I lost a 3 man squad of inceptors. I left them at the store one weekend and never saw them again. They were painted in my chapter's custom colors so I know for sure no one took them by mistake. However I got lucky once more and two seperate friends gifted me a box of them and another friend gave me another box for my birthday some months after. Now I literally have more of the buggers than I know what to do with xD.

People sure are paranoid these days... always terrified that someone or something is out to get them. Shame.

Many many years ago i used to play at a store that had a no bag policy. There were gaming tables at the back of the store that by passed the entrance of the store. Everyone with a bag had to leave it at this "entrance". There's always a pile of bags there as people would leave their bags and enter the shop to browse.

I left my bag there after a session of gaming. And when I came back some 15mins later from browsing the shelves my bag was gone. I had my entire 40k marine army minus a few character models.

I stopped playing 40k after that and only got back into it years later when I got a proper full time job.

People don't just steal for value. Sometimes they do it maliciously.

That is SOMETHING man, a crime with intent to destroy a mans passion, his dreams.

Note: If you have no patience to watch through the entire video, or you missed it, the entire house was smashed up, but nothing else in the house was stolen, just the Lego's. He was only gone 2 hours, for a walk.

Video doesn't play in my country, but I was mostly just having a joke. Regardless I think the point kinda stands, people out to be malicious are going to aim higher than that if they want to cause any sort of hurt.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

I have VERY long dreads, and several hours after a game, I found a Chaos model clinging on to my hair for dear life. My hair stole a model! I did return it though.

There's been several occasions where I've forgotten one or two models on the gaming table, and several where others have forgotten one or two models of their on on the table. I think all models forgotten has found their way to their right owner.

But the dice. Oh the DICE! I have so many random dice that I don't know where they come from, and I've lost/forgotten/misplaced so many dice of my own.

Nurgle protects. Kinda.

Didn't happen to me, but someone at my FLGS walked away with the wrong carry case once. Honest mistake thinking it was there's, brought it back a few days later very apologetic.

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.

To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.

I would love to see the reaction from a common crook who stole a bag thinking he nabbed a camera or a couple guns and instead discovers dark eldar or some old-school slaanesh when he opens it up.

Kind of like my fear that I will die in a car crash enroute to a game and the police will find my body skewered by dozens of metal grey knights.

Although not 40K related, I have often gone home from a gaming session and found a 15mm FOW observer base inside one of my buildings. They just often get forgotten. Always gets back to the original owner though.

Unless someone/thing really _is_ out to get them. Then it’s not paranoia, but prudence.

Had minis go awol, but turn up in terrain; had people track me down at competitions with a case I’ left at a table; no gaming thefts, though. Although I play Orks, me. Not much reason to steal those, unless you’re masochistic.

Except if thief isn't looking for ready to play army but just cheap models getting rid of paint is dirt easy.

Now conversions are another thing. Good unique conversions makes at least those models easier to identify.

I do that everytime and never feel bad about it. Benefits of living in Finland I suppose. The tournament circuits are so small theft is not a worry. Might feel lot less safe in LVO though...Different country, scale waaay different.

Japan would be great place to play miniatures in terms of safety. Things are very safe there. Past 2 years I have been hiking there not once did I feel uneasy leaving my backbag unguarded. And that backbag contained tons of money as well as...well my entire stuff I had with me. All the spare clothes, passport etc.

Except as has been seen in this thread people steal lone models etc. And of course if army is in case whole case gets stolen to be discarded later when theft found out it was just models.

Even worst painted and poorly built models are not proof from being stolen.

I thwarted a would be thief many years ago in my old local GW that is now long gone,

I was packing my tackle box and a guy knelt down next to me and said “ wow I have ultramarines too”
And he shows me an attack bike, I noticed something about it that wasn’t right so I called the manager over and asked home to look at it, the manager then asks to see a different model to check paint style and then walks off with the bike into the back of the store.
He didn’t argue at all and left the store, never seen the guy again.

I had used the store army a couple of weeks before and before that they were in the store display case

This didn't happen at a game/tournament.

Back during 4th edition i was away at collage, freshman year, and i wasn't exactly friendly with the other 9 guys who lived in my dorm. I didn't enjoy any of the same things that they did, and I generally kept to myself.

One evening after class i came back to find my case ripped open in the common room and a full 2500 point space marine army stomped and burned to oblivion. I never did get compensation for it either.

Oh stop complaining, its for the greater good... Now get in the box!

closest i have come to stealing was my self when i was 13-14 played a manager at a GW store and packed his dark angels scout segeant in my case by accident, noticed on the way home and stared at it because of how well painted (at the time) it was compared to my stuff, the temptation was there to just keep it.

took it back the next day of course
