Hi All!

Question about the Recon mission in CA and all the new rules. Looking forward to playing this mission for the first time but I have no idea how the hell it works now!

Is the general consensus to split your army by points or number of units?
If units that can deepstrike (terminators for example) deepstrike as per their “special options” anywhere on the table, or do they just have to “walk on” as per the rules?
Can a unit that doesn’t start on the table use a deployment stratagem like Webway strike to deepstrike? Again, is this then anywhere on the table or required to be in the deployment zone, thus making the stratagems pointless?
Can a unit that gets selected to start on the table, us a deployment stratagem to deepstrike instead?

Thanks!

Subsection "The Armies" says how to split the units up. (It's by units, not points or power).

Subsection "Reserve forces", the first parenthesized section answers your question about Terminators etc. (they may use these abilities even if they start in Reserve).

Subsection "Reserve forces", first line answers your question about Deployment Stratagems for non-stating units (No, they may not, because they are in reserve, there is no time during deployment when you can use the statagem).

Subsection "Reserve forces", second line describes how reserves enter battle (They can't just arrive anywhere, they are limited as to how they arrive.)

So, if a terminator unit is in the 2/3rds that does not start on the table, and then has a 3+ rolled for it turn 1, it essentially has no choice but to walk on as per the mission deployment rules and beta/faq rules? -as it can't deepstrike at all turn 1?

Just trying to get it straight in my head and it's only making me think that terminators are basically one of the worst possible units for this mission (let alone the game overall).

I guess it leads me onto a follow up question - if 2 different rules happen at the "end of the movement phase" the controlling player gets to chose the order of operations, correct?

Thanks BCB!

1) Correct. It's the reason why I politely tell my opponent before rolling the D12 to determine mission that they have a One in Twelve (thus by Discworld rules about a 111% chance) of automatically winning (To spell it out, I'll instantly concede and ask to have another game). I hate Recon and Roving Patrol with a passion normally reserved for Twitter Arguments.

2) If by "Controlling player" you mean "Player whose turn it is", then yes.. BRB Page 178, "Sequencing" sidebar.
