Hey all I'm trying to make an Ork army that basically goes from feral to slowly incorporating Imperial tech & aesthetics but Orky.

Kinda like Blood Axes except they'll be more inspired by space marines than the imperial guard. For example I have AOBR Nobs I'm converting to make a painboy, big mek etc.

They way I plan to paint them is not according to traditional Ork color association i.e. my Big Mek will have red armor like a techmarine, the pain boy white like an apothecary and my weird boy blue like a librarian. Instead of a regular Shokk Attack Gun I will be converting a Thunderfire Cannon as a stand in. My Lootas will have blue helmets like a Devastator squad and my Nobs will have red or white helmets like sergeants and veteran space marines do.

I have lots of boys, a trukk, a Leman Russ and a warboss. I will model imperial bitz to most of my army as well. Do you guys have any other ideas to make my Orks seem more Codex Astartes compliant as far as looks and feel goes?

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?
Your army could suffer Post-Chapterhouse Stress Disorder (PCSD)! If you think that your army is suffering one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, call us at 789-666-1982 for a quick diagnosis!

Great pics. I want them inspired by Astartes (CSM too) not try to become them or be some kind of loyalists. Basically they've seen Astartes in battle and thought they were Ded 'Ard and had their S**t together so their fancy color schemes must help them win battles somehow or so they think. Ideas?

Have you heard of the Deffwotch?

Few ideas
- Try to use "subtle but obvious" (if you allow me) substitution. Say, Bolt weapons instead of sluggas (bolt pistol), shootas (bolter) and heavy shootas (heavy bolter). Obviously looted. Units like Lootas could use comparable weapons like assault cannons. You can still add few blades here and there to make them extra killy
- On the same note, loot astartes vehicles. Say, Rhinos for Trukks. If you have a trukk, use elements of it and other spare bits to "orkify" some rhino.
- Try alternative or double color schemes (say, like the crimson fists), color more parts of the Ork with these colors instead of neutral black, grey and brown. Plan carefully, it could be visually overwhelming combined with the green skin of the orks.
EDIT: you already planned the scheme - fine, still I suggest to make few attempts before proceeding with the whole army.

The deffwotch is a pretty funny idea. A group of orks notice that the humies always get into the best scraps, so decide to pose as space marines in order to steal the imperiums fights.

Again I don't want them to be space marines but influenced by them look wise. I'm thinking of making my warboss in mega armor look similar to Abaddon and maybe my regular warboss have all gold armor like a blood angel or custodes.

To be fair, the Deffwotch didn't try to look like Marines exactly, they were more taking advantage of how ill-informed and illiterate the common populace is, especially when you're covered in so much armour they can't even see who is inside of it.
