It uses a fictional portrait from within a fictional story? How meta!

The Emperor was probably some modern anti-theist lunatic preaching that religion is the bane of humanity's existence. The newest books, like Dark Imperium, make it clear he at least hates religion.
EDIT: I almost rolled my eyes when the Emperor brought up the medieval Crusades in Tales of Heresy as proof religion is evil (granted he does bring up Cardinal Tang, but he was only one person in the 30 millennium). Really? He brought up something happened over tens of thousands of years ago?

Yes. Because that was for the readers' benefit, so they'd have some sort of context for the discussion. The fictional actions of future fictional characters have zero moral weight to the average reader.
Whether the crusades are actually a convincing argument is actually a different question, but they are something any given reader is likely vaguely familiar with and acts as a point of familiarity, so the in-book conversation isn't just navel-gazing gibberish.

Well, it looks like the last thread Onething posted was flat out deleted, rather than locked, so we might be getting a short reprieve from the Onething background posts for a bit, if its a temp ban.

Its because he literally came out as pro-Nazism in that locked/deleted thread.
Anyway, I think that the idea of what Malcador was able to scavenge is interesting, but as others have said its really just a throwaway bit of information to give a connection to our current timeline. However some of the things I'd like to know if they made it to the 41st mellenium would be:
The Holy Lance/Spear of Destiny/Lance of Longinus
Declaration of Independence or US Constitution (unlikely i think)
Sword of Charlemagne
Napoleon Bonaparte's Tomb or just his body
anything representing the space race besides the Lunar Rover (since someone already mentioned that was indeed saved)
the Pyramids of Giza and South America

As I said my impression is that Malchador isn't intreasted in preserving some sort of "pro Iom Narrative" so much as ensuring human history is preserved, so I suspect he'd "take what he can get" focusing in partiuclar on items of historic importance.

Makes me think of an article about the Mosin-Nagant. It was a general write up about its prolific production under the Russian empire and later the Soviets, as well as its widespread use in warfare even in modern conflict zones (there are many photos of partisans, militia, ect... in Ukraine, Afganistan, ect using the Mosin Nagant). The article concluded with the idea that the last bullet in the last war might well be fired from a Mosin-Nagant Wonder if they are any of them still kicking in 40k? I imagine a 7.65x54r could still be useful vs some of the gribblies in 40k? They even come in incendiary and explosive rounds! lol

I wonder if Malcador collected anything that would be considered utter garbage, but that, out of context, he could not know any better, such as a copy of Aliens: Colonial Marines or the Halle Berry Catwoman movie.

I’m playing colonial marines at the minute. It’s ok. Not that really. Bit harsh I think......it’s not great. But it’s ok. Sound effects are nice.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. It's been practically blissful to not have someone mention Perpetuals or the usual spiel from you on Rogue Trader. Now you're back and you've got like two threads locked? We told you the last you were on, stop threadomancing old ass threads to forcefully restart conversations that were dead days, or even weeks ago. This ain't a live chatroom, it's a forum. If you're 20 years old like you say, this should not be this hard for you to understand.

Well, we know some of the works of Shakespeare - sorry, 'Shakespire' - survived but not which ones. A lot of the sonnets are actually pretty ropey.
It was the Titan Rover (mars, not the moon) because corax wonders in deliverance lost what the hell kind of titan it's supposed to be from. Also the first warp engine circuits and the first gellar field circuits (the two being invented seperately means someone must've had a really bad day...)
Deliverance Lost has a few random call-backs. My personal favourite being the Emperor's secret gene-vault being opened by the "Shave-and-a-hair-cut" knock.
"The vault beyond was barred by a harmonic lock, attuned to an extremely narrow frequency of sound wave. There were certain parts of the rock that were linked to amplifiers within the structure, and the location of these had been revealed to Corax by the Emperor’s memories. He raised his fist to the first area and ran through the position and timing of each blow required to generate the correct harmonic key. He banged his gauntlet against the rock face, the blows resounding deep within the hollow beyond the cliff but muffled by the howling wind and snow. Knock. Knock-knock knock-knock. Knock-knock. The dull echoes faded away and Corax wondered if he had mis-timed the blows or directed them at the wrong spots. His doubt disappeared as the grinding of gears and wheeze of pneumatics shuddered across the cliff face."
