I noticed this in the updated Imperial Armour Index Xenos FAQ. I don't think I've seen an expression of the official position on legacy units and how they it going forward before, so though this was very interesting.
Q: What datasheets should I use for Grot Bomb Launchas,
Attack Fightas, Fighta-Bommers, Dethrolla Battle Fortresses, Kill
Krushas, Raven Strike Fighters, Knarloc Riders, Great Knarlocs
and Firestorms?
A: It is an unfortunate truth that we can’t continue
indefinitely to sell and support every model we’ve ever
made. As we make new models, and new books to explore
their background and rules, we have to stop producing
and featuring some older models. But just like many of
you, we still treasure our collections of older miniatures,
and we still want to be able to use them in games and
forge glorious narratives on the tabletop! As such, the
datasheets for these classic models can be found below,
but they are intended for use in open play or narrative
play games; they are not designed or approved for use in
matched play games (as they won’t, for example, have any
points values).
Is this the start of things to come?
Of course this is Forgeworld, but it makes you think...

Forgeworld discontinuing stuff is the way Forgeworld works. Don't be surprised if the LCTB models get their data sheets phased out too.

IOW, "we won't offer rules for the only format that anyone cares about because then it might give incentive for people to buy recasts or third-party models that look similar". It's just annoying that GW thinks anyone is dumb enough to believe their justification for it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

This is nothing new, it was in the spring update. The only reason it's marked new, is that they've added more things to the list.

I thought that was probably the case as the question was in black, just the reply in purple.
I just found it very strange and something that anyone else who had missed might want to be aware of. Specifically the idea that Datasheets for old models could be removed from Matched play and have no official points cost even.

It's the sad truth that Forge World has never made their models "balanced". It makes sense that they would choose not support matched play with some of their models. You're always free to "counts-as" (it's perfectly legal RaW) your sexy models with normal Codex Datasheets.

Sounds to me that it's likely Elysians won't have matched play rules in the next round of books then. Open and Narrative only for those boys. No model, no (matched play) rules right?

They will just end up as yet another IG regiment that at best gets a paragraph for a doctrine and otherwise uses the standard rules.
pity, I wanted a bunch of them but never had the money

This is how it is for old AoS models and it is exactly what will happen to all Index units as soon as the last Codex is out. A pdf of open play datasheets where your old units go to die.

I'm not that pessimistic. I don't think they're suddenly going to invalidate all the matched play rules already released in an index just because they finished the Codexes.
When we get the edition rollover though, it absolutely could be on the cards.
