I have a 3 and 6 year old. Older one showed some interest in my Warhammer minis I painted when I was a teenager, so I impulsively decided it would be a great bonding experience and promptly purchased damn near every boxed set game I could get my hands on.

After looking through them I built out deathwatch overkill because of the simple rules and we’ve enjoyed playing that a lot, but the younger one didn’t have much to do since it was pretty one sided and few dice rolls.

Now I’m trying to find the next one to do, and I’ve got Warhammer quest (both), space hulk, kill team, Necromunda, Adeptus titanicus, and the two horus heresy board games.

And recommendations on easiest ruleset to teach to and have a 6 year old play of those, and potentially have lots of dice for 3 year old to “help” with?

Battle for Vedros?

Out of what you got, maybe WHQ or Space Hulk?

Battle for Vedros was literally designed to get children into 40k, so that's a solid recommendation.

Kill Team is relatively simple, but most of the rule sets for GW boxed games are going to be pretty gritty for a 6 year old. Though if you keep at it he'll be playing advanced Necromunda in a year or so.

Google says I missed that one by 2 years. Must not have panned out; the link now takes you to the small 40k 8th edition starter sets...

The Revell liscenced 'Build and Paint' are just modelling/painting starter kits. No rules.

Find a copy of the original Hero Quest on ebay...

Battlemasters is a fun game too and fairly simple



Or if you want to avoid dice and have a bit more physical interaction Crossbows and Catapults is top notch

The new Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth of the Necrons is perfect for what you want.

My son loves Space Hulk, Blood Bowl, and 40k, but I bought Space Marine Adventures when it was released a couple of months ago, and he loves it. He said he likes Space Hulk better, but he's played SMA an awful lot (it can be played coop or solo). And even though it has a much simpler rule set, I have to admit, I've had a lot of fun playing it with him.

Cannot recommend this enough.
My favourite was to mix UK and US rules. Monsters and quests US style (so Chaos with spells, 3W chaos warriors), but using UK equipment (so essentially every choice is a 0-1, but the Wizard has a decent attack in diagonal and some defense without spells).

Battle for Vedros is pretty much dead. GW has even pulled the plug on the Battle for Vedros Facebook page.

His best bet would be to pick up something like Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth of the Necrons or Blitz Bowl from Barnes & Noble.

Had sooooo much fun with crossbows & catapults, although it often degenerated into who could launch what into the others face.
