Hi, Sorry just need some help, I was wanting to get some ruins for some scenery for my next battle.

but I am not sure what type of ruins are better, thick Forgeworld OOP (and others) type of ruins or the plastic skinny ruins produce by games workshop these days.

Whatever you think looks best & fits your budget.

Also check out GaleForce 9. We've got a lot of their pre-painted stuff on the tables at the shop.

From a gameplay point of view it doesn't really matter, both are going to function about the same on the table and the height/width of the walls is a much bigger factor. Aesthetically IMO the thicker FW ruin type terrain looks a lot better than the plastic stuff, which suffers too much from the thin-part constraints of getting it to fit on the sprues. The walls are just too thin to be realistic. But thin walls are a lot cheaper and easier to produce, so unfortunately a lot of scenery is stuck with it.

The one downside to the FW ruins is actually the floors, not the walls. All the detail stuff on the floor looks great, but it can make it difficult to put models within the footprint of the ruin.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Ok, I was going to go for the relicos militarum but I guess I will go for the thicker walls, I was looking at ruins of the relicos militarum and they look to thin as you mentioned, I think some forgeworld and other stuff will do better in the end as the thicker wall look better.

Thanks for the help
Kind Regards

You want GW plastic (if have to pick between GW plastic and FW resin...). GW plastic everyday... Their terrain is excellent, is easy to strip mold lines etc and paint and is SOLID. Any resin is fragile in comparison! Plastic is so much more durable and doesn't melt (e.g In my area will get 35+ degree Celsius heat, especially in a garage etc (way higher will be 40+) and I have had resin models melt, while plastic no problem). Personal experience (I have to keep my resin models in the air conditioned house, just incase).

Edit:
It seems you are in Australia as well, you have to take into the fact that plastic is harder/stronger than most resin and has a higher melt point (idk where keep models), but we have some of the highest temperatures in the world (especially in confined spaces) and depends how much you use the item (resin is weaker than the same amount of plastic).

Don't forget that the new Sector Imperialis terrain seems to be much chunkier than the old GW ruins. Could be a happy medium in terms of aesthetics and price compared to either the older ruins or the FW stuff.

Oh the old resin fw ones. personally i love the way they look and its modulatrity however i will say that due to the height of the windows and the sloped sides its really hard to get true line of sight using them. easy enough to count as them having los from the window but eh.

Does anyway one know something better then forgeworld ruins? Something that does not melt I guess, what do poeple recommend, or is there a way to beat the ozzy heat, I live in Brisbane aswell, though thank god I have had no problems with my rogue trader metal army melting. Though the max heat would be 40 degrees, but that only usually a week with an air conditioned house, don’t want to keep the air conditioning on for when I am not there though.

I would check out the Sector Imperialis Christmas bundle. Or if you're interested in Kill Team pick up the starter set for that because you get pretty much the same terrain, plus a couple of squads of models.

Personally I like the thin GW scenery due to the fact that I can get a large amount of it for relatively cheap.

I was fortunate enough to win an electronics package at work a couple years ago so I have a 3d printer. I'm getting my scenery from printablescenery.com
Pick what you want and print as much as you like, and most of it is modular.
Plus you can go on thingyverse and find even more printable scenery!

I've also got a ton a print-on-paper, cut out and glue to card and assemble scenery I've collected over the years.

We're gonna need another Timmy!

Bah ruins need house rule to count as solid walls rather than reverse. They are totally unsuitable for 8th ed if they have holes.

well I went to games workshop and wanted to compare Ruins, to say the truth I like there new ruin (Sector Imperialis and Desolated Township), they are thicker wall's then the City of Death and Shrine of The Aquila, and maybe i should get also the Forge world and other ruins as really I don't see much else beside the Sector Imperialis for 40k, there was also the Mechanicus on the tables but I am going for ruins and trees build.

so I think I will stick to Sector Imperialis>others>forgeworld

Warhammer 40k Chapel of Sanctuary
Some old looking rogue trader plastic pieces.

and I really think that enough of options.

Thanks Everyone for the help.
