You're building a small necron army. 3 spiders or 3 wraiths?

Wow, and to think I was on the edge about a necron army and it was a cools video on how to convert a wraith to a spider that tipped me...

There is a great conversion out there for turning wraiths into Scorpions, which would be cool stand-ins for Spyders.
But yeah, as far as utility on the table, wraiths all the way.
Spyders mostly aren't even a consideration in 8th.
Go 6 wraiths. They're an awesome go-to unit in every game and are only that much better in smaller games where less firepower can be brought against them.
"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.
To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Go wraith, they are excellent at low point games. Necrons are very strong at 1k. Here is a hard to kill, do lots of damage, low deployment count, necron list. Everything (except the cryptek) is T5 multiwound. Tomb blades are -1 to hit and get AP-1 at 12" from mephrit. Destroyers use EP to kill whatever there is. Tomb blades and destroyers get +1 to RP from the cryptek. Wraiths can also reanimate for 2 CP. Everything can fly, so it cant be tied up in melee, and can still shoot after falling back.
Wraiths have been amazing every edition since they were first added in 3ed. Go with the Wraith, their combination of survivability, board control, and damage output have put them in the top tier for over a decade. This has not changed in 2018, and unlikely to change in 2019.
However, you can certainly build a list around Spiders. It will not be as competitive, and will be hard to design, but it is technically possible.
Spiders don't help vehicles as much as you might think. The extra d3 wounds isn't going to help in a lot of circumstances.
CA will likely only give them a point reduction, which is desperately needed, but living metal needs a rule change to make it worth while. A monolith without quantum shielding really doesn't benefit at all from a Spyder and cryptek combo, which is crazy.
For that reason wraiths are a safe bet. It's a shame, cause I love the idea of spyders.
Hopefully Spyder points will fall enough that they are useful to Shepard herds of scarabs.
One idea I could see would be if asoider takes no action in a turn it can overcharge a units weapons when it shoots, like increasing str or ap by one.

Wraiths are flat out better units than spyders.
Spyders are a joke. No character rule, so they can be shot off the table. Expensive, so you can't have many of them, and they can't split up like in 3rd ed so you can't have them go around independently and repair vehicles or make a nice anti-psychic bubble.

Glad I'm not the only one who preferred the old model!
I liked the old lore, how they were creepy research machines which used their phase tech to remove samples from people, leaving no external signs of injury. It said in one WD article that they were once serial kilers, but that lore aspect got moved over to deathmarks.
