I feel this video may be relevant, it is the first I've seen someone actually try to figure out how strong Godzilla is.

Yeah that level of toughness isn't worry. I think any gun that can turn rock into magma outpowers submarine torpedoes.

Out of curiosity, never having seen any of the gozilla movies, how is it generally dealt with?

In most cases, you don't beat Godzilla as much as weather him and hope he doesn't come back otherwise you need a giant monster of your own and an entire army and failing that an atomic weapon.

Godzilla was created by an atomic weapon, and I've generally assumed him to be nuke-proof.

In the black and white movie, he's dealt with by a device which destroys all the oxygen in the ocean and disintegrates him.
In Tokyo SOS, Kiryu turns his hand into a drill and drills a hole in him, then Mothra's larvae bind him with silk. Kiryu then picks up godzilla and flies him out to sea, and crash-dives into the ocean.

Most of the time, he just stomps on things and has a big fist-fight with the other monster of the week while the JGSDF is completely impotent.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!
