I saw a list of what are supposed to be the best 10 units in wh40k.

I wondered what a list of the best and worst unit in each army would look like.

So if you want to pick an army and list what you think are the best and worst units in it, share your insights.

on the forum. Obviously

Hmm well in terms of necrons -

Best : Destroyers

Reliable source of damage and can be pretty durable too. My opponents hate it.

Worst : Spyders

Way, way too easy to gun down, and doesn't really provide that much utility.

What I have

Has someone forgotten the existence of contemptor dreads and land raiders?

Fair point, they still add something to the army however, despite them being overcosted, you do get anti-tank firepower and a transport. Allarus and Wardens don't provide anything that can't already be done by Vertus or Custodes for cheaper.

I highly suspect Vertus will go up in points in CA, but for them to be useful at all, Allarus will have to go down, I would also make their weapon more reliable with 3 shots instead of D3, and Wardens to get something else besides 6+ FNP and an extra attack to justify their use.

Worse: Grey Knight Techmarine

Less options weapons and gear options then a regural techmarine, for almost twice the cost.

Best: GK GM in NDK armor rig.

A minor increase of points comparing to both a GM and a NDK, for better stats and same weapons as GM and NDK, in a single slot. Also has ,a probably unintentional, synergy with GK stratagems.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Harlequins:

Best: Skyweavers
Worst: Voidweavers I guess, though they aren't terrible. *Edit, nope forgot about the Webway gate. You can barely even deploy the thing legally by matched play rules. Cool looking piece of terrain, great for display boards, completely worthless in game.

Sisters of Battle:

Best: Seraphim
Worst: Celestians, they just don't have a purpose or role. Wish they did, but they don't.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...

Tyranid best: Impaler Guards

Extremely efficient shooting, good in all situations and great stratagem. Probably going to get a nerf.

Worst: Spore Mines

10 points for a melee T1 1W no save speed 3" model, which dies if it attacks. Not a troop. Can deepstrike but at more than 12" so it cannot charge after deepstrike.
Probably worst model in the game.

Spore Mines are nowhere near the worst unit! They deny enemy deep strikers and fill out brigades.

Tyranids:
Best - Hive Tyrant with Wings
Worst - Tyranid Prime (was tempted to say Lictors, but they can theoretically help fill out a Brigade - the prime just doesn't do anything that isn't done better by something else, with the exception of boosting another mostly loser unit; Tyranid Warriors)

Drop Pods can be a huge area denial unit however. My vote for worst SM unit would be Land Speeder Storms.

I would suggest the Obelisk is worse, by merit of being an even more expensive Monolith with no gate.

Tyranids -

Best: Carnifex. Absolute beast and swiss army knife, if magnetized can be customised to take on any role an army needs.

Worst: Sadly, Tervigon. It could be halved in price and still be dubious.

Tyranids:
Best: Hive Guard with Impalers.

Reliable S8 shooting ignoring cover and line of sight, option to fire twice. Works great in any fleet without any special requirements.

Worst: I will point at Tervigon, solely based on its price. It's a poor unit on its own (like a Haruspex, a Lictor or a Hive Crone), but at nearly 250 points it is simply absurd. You could get so much more for that instead of getting a sad, fat, and useless sack of wounds with a poor offense, defense, and half-gutted rules for a matched play.

Nah. Drop Pods are an actual active bonus for you enemy.

Just touch them with the back guy of a unit, Drop Pod cannot move out or even hit back, and you're save from all that Space Marine shooting

Drop Pods can't be the worst unit in the Space Marine book, because Dev Centurions exist, which are the worst unit in the game.

No my friend there is no contention here. The worst unit in the space marine codex is the Devastator Centurion. This is probably the worst unit in the whole game.

I have to agree. I can't think of an actually worse unit beyond gimpy stuff like the knight shrine or ork mekshop.

They are super bad. BAD BAD BAD. However - A drop pod can make another unit a lot better. For example - If I could put hellblasters in them - it would probably be the best combo in the space marine codex. So drop pods can't be the worst. They suffer a lot more because they don't even have a great unit to put inside. That and they are about 30-40 points overcosted. 30-40 points overcosted is kinda par for space marine vehicals so - a drop pod is not special in this regard.
